Need to fit an alarm system on the project so was wondering what make/model people went for?

Does it make a big difference on premiums?

Viper, Toad etc?

Thanks

All are equally useless at protecting your car, if the intended thief knows what he's doing, so just go the cheapest that gives you an insurance discount.
Those that text/page you when the alarm is triggered may be of some use if you expect to be close to your car when it's interfered with.

I agree with brian, the standard e30 one will be best as not ell theifs know how to disarm it! all the aftermarket stuff is easy to get off in silence!

I don't have the standard alarm, it was stripped out along with everything else.

Just thought that while i'm fitting one back in, might as well fit one that might save me some money on insurance :)

If it's a cabby (?) get one with a microwave dome so you can have protection with the roof down. Make sure you test the dome's coverage before signing it off. If it's not right then walking close to the car can set it off. I've got a toad one, insurance approved. No probs in 5 years.

Yes it's for a convertible.

Is the Toad a Cat 1 approved? What model is it?

Don't get a Clifford one. I've read on here before that cheap ones are just as good if wired up well. Isn't there someone on here that deals with car electronics for a living?

Check whether insurers need it before spending any money.

Thanks

You find them on ebay :D

I understand your point especially as for the OP he was asking in relation to premiums but I for one regardless of my insurers policy would rather my car didn't go missing and if an alarm was enough of a deterrent then great.

Of course, for you own peace of mind having an alarm is always worth it.
