Can't help looking over these turds at the moment.

Naturally there will be few decent surviving specimens left, but I'm guessing an all together original car isn't a bad place to be?

I figure the 525 is probably the best all rounder for a daily?

Never driven one. Are they a decent communicative drive?

I quite like the clean look of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-BMW-525- ... 23303bef7e

Ignoring some of the nonsense in the description with urban legend like nikasil (on a non-vanos M50)

So what are these turds like on a daily basis and is the 525 (24V) a slug /is it likely to be comparable with my E46 325 touring in the go dept?

A nice one is still a nice thing. 525 Sport is the best allrounder, reasonably nippy, LSD, decent suspension, sport seats and M Tech kit , innit :) Finding a nice one is the hard bit :(

Shagged steering boxes, front end wobbles and sill rust are the usual ailments.

Find out how much one weighs Lee - they are nice cruisers but can't see it being any quicker than your E46.

I've only driven M30 powered turds - a couple of 530s which were nice and brisk and a 535i which was just right

I'd love an '89/'90 dolphin grey 535 SE with sports black leather and the proper BBS with TRX's - not many left though :(

Most of whats left seem to be 520's for some reason 8O

The 520i's are like whores they get passed round so much, I picked up a 520 touring breaker last year with 15 owners on the v5, it is very used/shit :D

I just sold this last month - http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 34&start=0

Its a shame I never got to drive it properly, really nice car even though it needed a few bits sorting.

As has been said though, there are virtually no decent ones left, parts from the dealers have become stupid money too

Nothing at the moment. A E36 328i Manual touring is what I want but theres none about.

I'll probably buy a cheap runaround if I end up with no car.

My uncle had a N Registration Green E34 525i SE Automatic with leather, ice cold air-conditioning. I think he bought it in 2000/2001. Now back then I thought it was "FAST". Had many a go against E46 330Ci/I which I thought were the bollocks at the time plus local boy racers in their corsas etc. Was standard except a chip. Had many fond memories of that car and being taken for rides in it when I was a teenager. The thing was quick. Saw a GPS 150mph and indicated 140mph. But get an E34 M5 LE .... That's the real bollocks. Forgot to mention had armrest all leather and the interior had a very high quality feel about it.

I spotted that white one Lee and it looks a goodun.

I had 2 525's in Auto form and they were "no drama" motoring. One was an M20 and the other an M50TU.

I drove my old '93 one last year and it's still a great car. The guy bought it off me in 2003 and still owns it today. It looks lush in Diamond black with shadowline and still sounds a peach as it drives past.

E34's are a great car, but numbers are dwindling fast. For all that, I get a LOT of calls for bits, mainly wiper racks, 15" BBS wheels etc. We took in a mint 2 owner 1988 car last month and it's pretty much stripped to the bone.

I have a few bits left over from mine if any E34-ists on here need anything? Steels with as new winter/snow tyres, touring roof bars with a pair of cycle carriers, factory detachable towbar kit.
also have a MINT wiper rack :D

Love um, i might take the e34 out 2moro shes sat over a week now. My e34 has given no dramas either, mine doesn't count compared to the normal stuff.

Such a great car but i always say that, i've driven a 525 and an e46 325. I'd prefer the 525 myself. They don't feel slow by any stretch still now.

I keeping wanting an e34 wagon i can put a bigger cc M50 vanos engine into

My mum had a serious blue 525SE manual in tut day and i remember them being so big but they aren't. The new 3 series is basically within 5-10mm of an e34 in every dimension. They just feel so solid

Theres a solid base of folks running e34's on the 5 forum, its mainly 540's and 525's not alot as they are the ones to have i guess

I got very close to building a 3.2 for my last E34 touring, got the block on the engine stand and mostly stripped down, S52 pistons and rods from over the pond, head reconditioned, and then Jim's E39 advert popped up!
The block is still there sat on the stand, I will build it one day :D

I had a manual Lazer Blue 520i Touring about 6-7 years ago. Slow, scruffy, rotten in places but an utterly lovely thing to smoke about in. So comfortable and effortless to drive and it just had a quality in the build that no BMW since has matched. Quite sad there are so few good ones left now :(

Pulled a 34 m5 out of a shed in July good service and a tidy up MOT and its now my daily very impressive build quality, cant get wiper blades anywhere! (any ideas?)

3.6 isnt the fastest thing ever but get er wound up and they go well and not bad on fuel nowhere near as bad you would expect,

I changed mine to aero blades with the help of some later arms and a mig welder :)
Best to keep it standard on the M5 though

Personally I would love BMW E34 M5 LE 3.8 litre 6 speed with ALL the trimmings
Factory standard
Cannot believe the prices of these haven't Sky rocketed yet ....
Being NA straight six, RWD, LSD, Manual
And also last of the handbuilt
But also having the classic NA straight six and with less electronic gizmos than the E39, E60, F10.

I met one guy at Gaydon few years back who has two.
One is a garage queen.
The other one presumably he drives that quite hard.
One was Orincco Green I think. The other one was a red/maroon colour I don't know the proper name.

I too love to drive my '89 Delphin 535i
Great cars and seem virtually bullet proof.

This is a 3.6 M5 sat on a driveway near me, sneaky Brianmoooore in cogneto shot in the car. The owner is a customer to my dads workshop had it over 10 years i think. It barely moves, for an MOT once a year is about it. This is my next e34 the onwer doesn't know it yet! Its not parked on grass so theres hope for the cills!

I've got the most thirsty e34 ever made, performance more than makes up for it! So i think running any other model they will seem economical

Andy i saw your red on on the 5 forum, whats the story behind it then?

^^ the photo locations look familiar but it looks a nice old bus.

I'd say it was possibly an import. It has the airbag wheel yet its a 93 MY with the narrow grille but later mirrors. This is what my last 525 was and that had a 380 Tech 2 wheel. I don't think the airbag wheel came in till later in the UK on these. i.e. the last late 95/96 cars.

It is surprising how thin on the ground nice E34's are now. I'd go out on a limb and say there's more E28's about

E34's have been unloved and worthless for a loooong time where as E28's picked up a following some time ago.
