I was just wondering if the OP had used the tinting spray or the film. I have used both and found the spray didn't last very long at all, even after applying propperly with lots of coats to very clean glass and a clear top coat. It only lasted a few months before looking very chipped and nasty.

The film is miles better and has lasted ages in comparison. I was going to advise he used it if he can not get propper french ones.

Propper French lights are the best option.

I'm skint and was undecided so I tried some film on everything. It's easily removed.

I used the film mate, mainly because i wanted to make sure i liked it! it works well, just needs to be heated up the right amount. Will ask a few of my mates if they any any flat caps so i can see what they look like before i think about buying!

Car should be going into an old car mechanic for a tune up on monday, will finish off the machine polishing this weekend along with some chrome polishing.. Still not sure if i should keep my interior or now.. drivers seat has a tear so that definitely needs replacing!

Type of stereo adaptor depends on which model of HU you're fitting!

Adaptors can be bought from Halfords, car audio shops or E-bay, etc.

Would it be better to get the dent in the drivers wing knocked out, rust removed and resprayed, or buy another wing and just get that resprayed?

If you can, best to stick with the existing wing, as at least you know it fits.

If replacing it, try to get a genuine BMW one, as some aftermarket panels are an atrocious fit and tend to rust quickly.

Presumably, this is the carb issue you're referring to?

Good to hear that cleaning out the carb has worked wonders. :D

I suspect the drilling may either be enlarging something on the carb, or possibly the oil feed pipe to the camshaft - quite a common trick done on M30 engines, as they have a tendency to gum up otherwise.

Pictures of the wiring incoming guys, removed the cage (not very cleanly! haha) and was welcomed by a fair bit of wiring.. nothing looks spliced into or chopped up though..

First pic appears to be an inline fuse and suppressor choke (in the black box).

Second and fourth pic is the adaptor for your present stero, presumably.

Third and fifth pic appears to show the speaker wiring.

Last pic appears to show a wristwatch and a wrap of ghetto heaven, innit?!

Find out what make and model stereo you intend to fit, and buy a suitable adaptor from the likes of Halfords, a car audio shop, E-bay, etc.

Just look at the wiring colour code on the existing loom, and use a multimeter to verify such basics as the ignition-switched +12V, permanent +12V, earth, etc. Other connections may be for electric aerial trigger, or amplifier/sub trigger.

Speaker ones are normally fairly obvious, usually dual-tone coloured, e.g. yellow/red and yellow white to left front speaker, blue/red and blue/white to right front speaker, etc.

Speakers are polarised, so try to establish which is earth (they sometimes have a common earth for all four speakers), but it doesn't matter too much if you connect them the wrong way round - it just won't sound as good, if your hearing is acute enough to pick up on such things.

That black connector is the one that fits into the cage that when you slide your removable head unit into the cage, makes contact between the cage and the stereo. It is now obsolete.

You need to get rid of that and go back to the choc block connectors and as above, connect those wires along with the speaker wires from the car to a standard stereo loom from halfords. Then any modern stereo becomes plug and play.

Did some chopping and this is what im left with>

I assume this is where i connect my new HU's wires? e.g. brown to the HU ground, red to the HU ignition live? (not sure what the white wire on the left is)

Image

And i assume that these are the speaker wires?

You are probably correct in the identification of both sets of wires, but none looks like OE BMW wiring. If the wire colours have been chosen in accordance with BMW's wiring colour code, then the plain red is unfused 12 volts permanent live, the plain white is unfused 12 volts ignition switched live and brown is earth.
Not recommended using unfused power feeds.
The BMW audio loom supplies both unswitched and switched power feeds, both correctly fused, from the accessories socket behind the glovebox.
