Thanks, I think its an M47? The I-Drive is the Basic version (No Sat Nav.), I tried to tell him, buy the petrol, after reading the horrors of the diesel lumps, but to no-avail

Yes it will be the M47. As its lowish mileage and not a worn out old pig like a lot of M47's in older E46's, it should be ok if he changes to oil and breather regular and deletes the swirl flaps.

I fancy this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111179031066? ... _947wt_958
Been toying with the idea of an e60 for a couple of months now. My 39 has just been serviced by the man above (
) and it's getting a couple of wheel bearings and a stat housing in the next couple of weeks. It's a great car and Barry had it for the day last week and agreed, it's probably one of the nicer ones out there so why move it on? I just fancy a change and the e60 appeals to me more and more. Out of all of them I'd probably go petrol again with a nicely specced 530i. The M54B30 is a great lump.
We've spoken about the 520d before and they are (for what they are), very capable and not the roadblock you'd expect. But i couldn't put up with a single tailpipe when the better cars got twins.......

Alpina B5 or 550i Manual M-sport!

Yes but I want to know the pros and cons of each approach so I got a better balanced view ....bss325i wrote:If you're happy to have the boot shut painted then get it done, if not touch the chip in. Whats do hard about that?

Ask the question in the tech section. You will then get a balanced view from many people.

Do you have either?*
To the OP:
520d M Sport manuals aren't bad cars. I know of one with over 200'000 miles, original turbo etc. Just avoid the 2007 onewards N47 which is a disaster.
V8's are nice when new but you'll get pissed off with 22 mpg, oil leaks etc.
*Or, do u have either.

545i's are a bit risky at this stage. The 525i and 530i petrol manuals with the M54 engine are probably as safe as you can get. They're not that bad, probably no worse than the typical E39.B7 wrote:But you can't get stuck in the past Pete. Certainly, ABS ECU's are better on the E60.

The e39's were never faultless and I believe no BMW since the e34 has been really. It's been a downward slope and if we want to stay with the marque, then we have to start living with and expecting a few issues. Gone are the days when we could run a one like a 34 and spend naff all on it between services. If you don't want the issues, buy a new Kia or Hyundai with it's million year warranty.
That 545 is something that caught my eye and the spec is good. Damage is light and unrecoreded. But can face the fuel bills at the mo? Not so sure but it would be nice to say I had one.
