See if you can locate the wiring to the boot lock solenoid from inside the car and put power to it ?
If not...
1. get a big hammer
2. smash the **** out of a rear light
3. pop boot catch with a screwdriver or get keys if in reach !
4. buy/fit new light !

Yes but it is either spot welded or similar

There is a "Knock Out" panel in the steel work behind the rear seat, leaving it out will do no harm.....djaaron89 wrote:some one said if u take on the back seats there is an access panel?

How did the boot lock itself with the keys inside?djaaron89 wrote: i left the keys in the boot and it closed.
central locking only on the doors
As Kam said, knock out the panel and reach through would be the easiest... And then get a spare key cut

I had to break into my E30 as I lost the keys entirely. The central locking was all locked up so I couldn't access the cabin at all. What I did I think is preferable than smashing a light in as a last resort, you could possibly distort the frame work the light bolts into...
1. Big hammer (common theme here!) and flat blade screw driver
2. Insert screw driver into the boot lock and smack with a hammer (this will force the lock through and pop the boot open)
3. If you need access to the cabin reach behind the back panel and press the central locking solenoid attached to the boot lock down, up pop the locks (assuming central locking is present for the boot)
I then proceeded to cut the steering column off and the keys were found about a week later!! I think replacing the lock is easier than messing around with the light IMO. I've still to replace the lock 9 months later!

where are you based aaron? you could take the drivers side door lock off, and get a key cut from the lock - costs around £25 from my area - no smashing, and you get a spare key too

If you can get into the cabin, take the rear seat back out, pop out the 'ski hatch' blank panel and then force off the trim panel at the rear of the boot. Hook the keys out or utilise a small child.
If you can't get into the cabin, pull out and wedge the top of the window frame (won't do any damage that can't be reversed by bending the other way) , drop a piece of stiff wire with a loop on the end down inside and onto the lock button and pull it up, assuming the car's not dead locked.

If you can't get into the cabin, this is the most painless way into the car:

"utilise a small child" -- that made me laugh.
For some reason it reminded me of the instructions for the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

Seriously, the rear light is the best way to retrieve keys from the boot!
You wont damage the rear panel and just mask up all the paint arroud the ligt so it doesnnt get scratched.
No need to bend doors or punch the ski hatch blank through and pop the welds.
A second hand light is like £10-20 and 5 min to change. A ski hatch blank removed means spot welding it back in and if left out loses the cars originality and just looks like its had an ICE install with a sub as this is the normal reason why they get knocked through.
Seriously, I have had to do the rear light thing and its quick and easy with no other fuss.

Smart E30 owners will, of course, carry the natty little 'wallet key' thoughtfully provided by BMW around with them, in the event of such situations.
