They are indeed mate, pretty impressed with the drop to be honest.. got rid of the majority of the arch gap! :D one thing they mentioned was it was running 'heavy' if anyone knows that they meant by that?

Good idea, if the original Pierburg is playing up, but don't expect much of an improvement if it isn't.

Radio should be on an ignition-switched live, which also turns on in the Accessory position, but many are just wired to permanent live by lazy auto-electricians.

Yeah it runs but not as well as it should, i new carb will be a lot more reliable i think :) , don't think the car was touched at all by the previous owner as its been kept standard (only had one) , the key was out but the doors wern't locked if that makes a difference?

The garage was meant to of fixed the engine cutting out, at the start of my drive this morning it would do it whenever i was coming to a stop (up to roundabouts etc) but further into my trip it was fine? there is a bit of traffic which is stop and start for 10 minutes and the engine didn't cut off once so im really confused

Sorry haven't looked back through the thread but is it an auto choke? What carb is it running now?
The only m10 I've ever had run well when cold was running a webber carb with a manual choke. I tried everything to get the original carb with auto choke running well but it was a nightmare.

If it's the original carb with auto choke they always were a pain in the ass! You might be able to get a manual choke conversion! They were common years ago for about £15 but not sure if they are still about
It will prob be worse now as the mornings are cooler. does the engine rev higher when it first started cold? (like the choke is on) what usually happens is as the engine warms the auto choke stays on full and causes the engine to flood when at idle, then the choke fully shuts off when engine is up to temp and all is well again.
My Mrs is a few years younger than me and she has never even seen a car with a manual choke! I passed my test in 1998 and manual choke cars were still everywhere!

The m10 I had with the webber and manual choke was always spot on TBH! Drove a bit better/quicker and sounded cool with a K&N on top!

Yea I can believe it, I had two e30s with the m10 engine and I always thought they were much better than the m40 lumps with the nasty cam issues,
Best of luck with it!

Revving always helps! In any situation! If in doubt....Rev it. The answer is rev it! Now what's the question! :D
Basically the quicker you can get the engine up to temp the better, in the dead of winter I would always let it run on the drive for 10 minutes before driving off to give it a head start. They are just a pain in the ass full stop, but they were pretty much all the same I guess, webber is the best solution I reckon!

Auto chokes are OK if set up properly and working as they should - try dismantling it and cleaning it all up/lubricating it, and ensure it fully closes the choke flap when cold and fully opens it when hot.

I had one (on a Weber twin-choke) on a Fiat twin cam, and it wasn't too bad, though a manual choke is preferable if only for the fuel saving, as an auto choke usually takes a good few miles to fully open up.

Need to use it in the next 2 days so won't have the time :( if i can find a weber i will just replace it, putting me off the car having it constantly turn off! haha, hopefully letting it run tomorrow morning and revving it will help out :)

Practically any of the single Weber twin-choke range could be made to fit, as they all use the same base fitting, but you need to ensure they're jetted correctly for the engine, or it will run like a bag of poo.

Aftermarket air filters rarely do anything other than create more induction noise.

While this may give the impression of giving more performance when accelerating, which may appeal to some boy racers, the constant drone soon becomes wearisome on a long motorway journey!

The filter itself mate, wondering if an old clogged one might be adding to the cutting out problem?
