Yesterday I took advantage of this weather, worked on removing my rear suspension for an overhaul. Aleady done front end: reinforced / powdercoated subframe, eibach arb, FK shocks n springs and poly bushed. Trial fitted E46 rack need to swap tie rods for e30 items.
All this is my long term project .... M60B40 w/S6S 420G

Took my old clocks out ready to be replaced with a new set (complete with white dials) thanks to maxfield.
Heat wrapped the rest of my exhaust, fitted a new electric pusher fan.
Jobs to do, finally install & connect my oil pressure/temp gauges & vacuum gauge.
Spray & fit a new passenger wing, & fit my new smoked headlights & fog lights.
Fingers crossed that's it for a while.

Prognosis? The drive shaft has lost all the nuts holding it in place
Curiously, one of the RAC chaps who assisted me owns an E36 325i Touring, and the other ones brother has a green E30 Touring. There was some definite old BMW love going on, lol.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

The most annoying thing is they initially thought the auto box had gone, so it's been taken to my local garage. Had they spotted from the off that the drive shaft had become disconnected, I could have had it taken to my house and sorted the missing bolts myself
! Or (who knows) the men in orange could have fixed it!

Well, just brace yourself for the fact we're approaching autumn / winter and it might not see the road until next EasterImysE30 wrote:I think unfortunately POD is too soon. P.S. you disappoint me. It was going to be 'ready for POD' every year since you started working on it

Fuelled it, cleaned it and touched up a few bits of pealing underseal with 3M 08537 sealer. Unfortunately, the driver's side "jacking point" looks pretty terminal and is disintegrating fast
On that note, I've booked it into my local body shop for the necessary repairs before the winter salt worsens things considerably and ruins my carpet! Will also be having a couple of minor rust scabs on the sill and door remedied and one of the arches sorted, it's not too bad but wants sanding down and painting before the welder is a necessity. Don't you just love these old things!

Chatted with another garage owner, since the one i've been waiting for is not particular in a hurry or disposed towards restorations. Six months to change oil and belts is long enough to stretch friendship and patience.

Owning an e30, you should learn to do these jobs yourself.Automaton wrote:Chatted with another garage owner, since the one i've been waiting for is not particular in a hurry or disposed towards restorations. Six months to change oil and belts is long enough to stretch friendship and patience.
Invest in a good quality socket set, trolley jack & a decent set of axle stands. Then read the wiki & away you go...
