As much as i liked having recaro LS's in fresh nappa leather they just didn't cut it for me and my inner OEM freakish'ness.

So something else was needed!

Back in feb, Que one ebay.de auction and i was the winning bidder of a 2dr original black sport leather interior from a 27000 mile car.

So armed with a borrowed E46 330 touring and a 6am Dover to Calais ferry ticket i collected them in a day with 800 odd miles covered in the car by the time i got back.

It still needs some more work with the gliptone to bring it up to a more matt finish but overall im over the moon!

It was/is so hard to find an original sport leather interior that isn't worn out old shite or been dye'd or boot polished to death!

It's been finished off with a brand new illuminated all in one leather gear knob with the correct M technic tri stripe, a new correct length E30 leather hand brake hande (none of this E34 wrongness) and a virtually brand new 370mm tech 2 steering wheel.

A pair of rear head rests and a mint OEM fire extinguisher are awaiting fitment as well.

I wouldn't have let my mate lend him his 330 touring for the trip if they'd been sourced from a Frenchman.

Below is a pic from page 31, jan 2011 from when i removed the kit on may car for a clean up.

Image

Slight bubbling of the paint what was said back then.

Well back in aug this year i thought i had better do something about it so both wheel arch lips were taken back to bare metal for a look.

Image

Solid and no new metal needed! The bit in the first pic was the worst bit on the whole arch so happy days.

So on with the Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 rust converter,

Image

So primed and painted before so Bilt Hamber Dynax wax oil on the inner lips.

So much so the mrs E39 540i has been replaced with an E46 330i M sport touring.

That interior looks sick dude.

I would have driven down in the E30 tho - with just a comfort fabric seat inside.

Then discard it and ride home in the minty stuff.

Hell yeah! :D Proper 80's chunky look, none of his stretched, poke and gape nonsense!

They are BBS RS001's no less, the correct 15x7 ET25 size for an E30!

The rears are going an inch wider and the fronts 1/2 inch so 15x7.5 and 15x8. The ET changes as well but can't remember of the top of my head what it is but works out fine.

Tyres will be 205/55 and 225/50. If you thought 205/55's were hard to find in a decent brand, 225/50's are 10 times worse!

From what I have found out only mk2 MR2's and Lamborghini countach front tyres used 225/50/15. :(

Will look something like this as the white car is running the wheel and tyre sizes I'm going for and is a similar height to mine.

Image
Hello Barry, long time no speak! If you go with 15x8 then it'll become RS002 spec, and the offset will drop to 12.

What sort of finish you going for with them?

I was in contact with a fella from s14.net called Joe, his quite often on there as he owns his own wheel company. His always selling sets on there with various finishes. He was finishing a lot of his lips in a type of powdercoat which came out like a Matt, brushed alloy. I haven't spoken to him in a while so he might still be on there, if you get a chance have a look. Might give you a few ideas.

Thanks for the comments guys! Just trying to get it looking as close to new as poss, still got a long way to go but and the interior is one of the hardest thing to sort in that rspect.

My pics do not do it justice, really need some one more handy and with a decent camera to snap it!

Noah, yes long time no speak! How's the iS?

I'm aware of the spec and offset changes to the RS001's when changing the dishes. I'm going for silver centres and aluminium lips most prob left bare and just polished as and when as they will never see wet use and alternate between the OE BBS. I have thought about as laquered finish to the rims as per original but I doubt ill go down that route despite me wanting them to look as close to how they would have when they could have been bought new in 1989!

2 set paedo same as me :) , gold/polished rim (bare) and a set of new oem looking bbs, which il get painted once the cars finished, also dithered about the polished rim to laquer or not, i think il just coat wheel in sealant before every use and then clean after, best weather only

The ones I'm having done with a polished rim are RS's though, not a set of OEM BBS.
