Hello please, new to this site but was told this is the best place for e30 info etc

Ok, I have spoken to lots of garages and getting mixed answers.

Can someone tell me if my e30 325i convertible on a j plate is chain or belt driven please?

Also i think my engine a bit to tappy for my liking. So are the cams hydrolic or ???

Cause I wanted to basically know if I can adjust them or if not what can I do?

Thanks guys

325i has a timing belt and isn't too hard to change if you're doing it yourself. The valves need to be manually adjusted, check the wiki link at the top of the page for all the info you'll need!

As Cloggy Saint says; rake through the wiki pages, there's plenty of info in there. Your 325i has M20B25 engine.

Go to Car Parts for Less' website for a timing belt kit. Conitech are OEM but far cheaper than what you'd pay from BMW. A good idea to get a new spring from the dealers too if you're changing your timing belt tensioner.

You can adjust your tappets yourself, again there's a guide in the wiki pages. M20 engines are known to be tappy. Said also to be caused by injectors or snapped exhaust manifold studs.
