Hi

The Oil level Light on my check control panel comes on sometimes when I start the car or when driving along.

If the light comes on when you turn the car on you can turn it off and then while holding in the check control panel button turn the car back, when you release the check control panel button the light does not come on again.

You can then drive all day and the light might not come back on but other times it will come on after a few miles.

Once the car is hot after a long drive you can turn the car off and when you turn it back on the light does not come on, the majority of the time.

The oil level sender is new as is the oil, it had this problem with the old sender and oil also.

I have read this could be an earthing problem on the circuit for the oil sender and that this can be proved by disconnecting the oil sender plug and if the light stays on this confirms the circuit problem.

Another theory I have read is that this problem can also be the result of some instrument cluster electrical fault but my cluster works OK.

Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it.

My car is a 1989 325i Cab.

Cheers

Is there enough oil in the sump?
