I think that 'P' reg is a late register one, as I have heard the myth of an 02 plated M3 or something crazy as that!!
As far as UK production goes I believe L (1994) was the last year to be made, but quite a few weren't registered for a few months or even years.

The M3 you mention was a Sport evo, it was on a 51 plate, asking price of 38k.

this is why I mentioned the VIN. registration can't be used to verify age, especially as it's only relevant to one country.
there much be an international serial number of somekind ???
I know that's the case with alot of computer components.. CPUs and Ethernet/Wireless network cards.

The VIN is stamped at the factory, not just a UK thing, using this site
http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi will tell you manufacturing date, no matter where the car is reg'd.
And yes I agree, I find it funny how every time someone mentions when a car was made, everyone starts going on about number plates..it has nothing to do with when a car was made!
Excellent example was my old sport which was on a H plate reg'd Jan 91, and the sport which I bought and sold recently on a J plate, reg'd Apr 92, the H plate was made 3 months after the J plate.

I know who has the last e30 touring and the last e30 made possibly?
His name is Max Reisboeck (BMW engineer), he made the first e30 touring in his garage at home!!! he took a standard 4dr and noticed it didnt have the room for his family and all the paraphanalia and so he spent 600 hours making a touring only 3 days after it was completed he showed his boss and his boss had it off him and showed it to the CEO of BMW who wanted it to go into production straight off!! The car no longer exists but as a present from BMW they gave him the last e30 touring which is "carefully stored" in his garage!! (gonna be a minter!!!!! :O)
info from autocar 6th sept 05

i hear what you're saying simon i was at the NEC bike show last year and they had a 1982 yamahaRD350 LC brand new unregistered and i think they were taking offers for it so surely when thats sold someone will have an 06 plate 350LC
A bloke from the RSOC built up a 3 door cossie from all new parts and registered it on a Y plate (Y2K RS). If someone built one from all new bits, was lucky enough to source a new shell etc they could register it today, making it '55' reg

whats wrong with that?
it was never registered untill 1997/1998 or whenever r reg is
the reg plate goes form date of first registration and not manufacture
you could have a car from the 60'd that was on a 55 plate if it had never been registered untill today

According to the ETK, the only E30s listed as being built in 1994 are the 316i and 318i tourings.
I asked a couple of weeks ago about when in 1994 production stopped, and was told February.
I have just aquired a lagunengrun-metallic 316 Touring that comes up with a build date of 2nd February 1994, so this must be one of the last.
VIN is WBAAJ12080CL58768

hmm... besides all these late registered cars , what i can tell from the above the last e30 to roll out of the factory was a 318 touring!!?!
i thought it would be some hard core fully loaded 325, sport, touring or cab...any thoughts.
