Yeahh best is mk1 bbs splits and put big dishes on ;) but yeahh any golf wheels will fit mate

14" rims might not clear the front brakes

14s should clear, plenty of e30s came with 14in wheels.
The main problem will be the offset, vw wheels will be something like et40, so will need 15mm or so spacers to get them sitting in a similar place in the arch.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant 14" VW wheels as I've tried some p slots on and they fouled the calipers
