Hi guys,

Quite a simple question, bought my convertible with the rear view mirror in the glove box and unsurprisingly it doesn't offer the best rear visibility..

I know the rear view mirror on the convertibles are mounted on the windscreen rather than roof but I have a feeling I may be missing a part/mounting with my mirror to reattach.

Does someone have a photo at hand of how their mirror attaches? Also what adhesive would people recommend for reattaching?

Thanks :)

There is a recessed disc in the cabby windscreen which has a setup for twisting the mirror onto. Some people use silicone as an alternative to secure the mirror.

Thank you both.

Here's a photo of the mirror in its current state, can someone let me know where I'm missing a part or two..

Cabbie windscreen should have a mount for the mirror already built in.

At s guess, your cabbie has had a saloon/touring windscreen fitted, these need the cabbie mirror supergluing to the 'screen....
The windscreen fitterzz tried this on when my cabbie 'screen was damaged by a low flying crow, the 'glued' mirror fell off within a week and my insurance company were obliged to cough for a genuine BMW item! :D

Don't use glue to fix a mirror. It can cause the grass to crack in cold weather!
Your local motor factors should be able to supply a double sided sticky pad designed for the job.

Thanks for the replies.

There is no recess or anything on the current windscreen so I guess this may be the inherent issue. I've already attempted adhering using a double sided sticky pad but it was woefully inadequate at keeping it steady, when driving it just vibrated like a bas***d!

Surely an adhesive sealant could work? I know something like superglue is a no no.

Alternatively i'm guessing the best bet is to get a cabbie specific windscreen to fit?

Yes.

Only via BMW new at £350+ish, but you may get lucky with a specialist breaker.

I've exactly the same problem....my solution is to keep an eye out for an E30 convertible in local breakers to pinch the windscreen from. There are plenty about on EBay....worth travelling for.
