Hi people.
I was thinking of selling my car at some time in the
Near future, but not sure what it might be worth.
I know its hard to value a car without seeing it but
Lets try anyway!
Its a 1987 - d reg 325i sport m tech 1
Delphin grey.
Approx 112k on the clock with full history.
Almost all the old mots and tax discs.
Only 6 previous owners
Body wise and mechanically its almost mint.
Drivers seat is worn as usual. Apart from that interior
Is clean.
Like i said before, i know its hard without seeing it.
All ideas and valuations are welcome.
If i think i can get what i want for it might put it up for
Sale sooner rather than later.....
I havnt put this in the for sale section because its not
Actually for sale yet.....

10k innit
"almost mint" shell on a tech 1 with complete and nice morsels, would command a good price - but ONLY if backed up with extensive pictures of kit removed, carpet and boot carpets out and inside rear door cards and wheels removed etc, as they are the vital areas that prove mint (not just what you can see from looking at it) prove all that 4-5,6k+ if its truly nice and proved , without any of that 2-3k if its the usual corpse on a stretcher tech 1, chances are if you have never looked at or restored said areas-it will be hiding multiple rust issues
So basically - depending on the price in your head what you think its worth/want, to get any decent dollar its out with the tools and camera

Body kit and bumpers have been off no rust.
Arches no rust.
Rear seat has been removed and carpet lifted no rust.
Boot no rust.
Battery tray no rust.
Scuttles no rust.
The only rust i found is on the roof smaller than a penny!!

Lots of pics of it all will get a good price,no pics and your "say so" will not get a good/true price, how about front floor pans, corners, all up behind glove box etc ? Rear floor pan bungs etc, rear inner arches, rear panel, its highly unlikely a 6 owner tech 1 having no rust or repairsmng786 wrote:Body kit and bumpers have been off no rust.

Unless it's the sunroof panel.Grrrmachine wrote:Roof rust = scrap value.
Any rot in the roof skin and I'd be seriously looking elsewhere as well. It will not be a rust free car in other areas if the skin has a penny sized rust issue.

It was going so well until the roof rot... If its the panel, like B7 suggested, get it changed. You'll be alright then, if its rot in the roof, regardless of the size, its still rot and in the worst place
Also, find a replacement driver seat and sort anything out that let sit down in the slightest. If you want a high premium, put some money into it first to make it a high premium car.
I wouldn't go to the extreme of pulling all the carpets out but obviously if it was minty fresh under there, pictures of that would help.
Anyone who knows what they are looking for in terms of rust will find it if its there anyway

Interesting disparity there chaps,
Biased though I am having one for sale at the moment aren't they all rotting corpse cases?
Granted there are 'better' ones that range from mint to minor rust in areas but where it goes from 6k to sub 1/2 grand shitter is beyond me, if only because nearly all of these cars will require paint and welding at some point in the very near future...
That plentiful supply of rot free shells and cheap cars is long gone sadly...

Thing is with them, as the pics of yours show and various threads and restos on here-areas like the inner arch areas they are all rust and need that sealant all taken back and rust attended too, the bulkhead and floor under the deadening aswell, they are all rusting if you hunt it out and don't kid yourself

Indeed, even on cars without the body kits, all of the void/box sections on the majority of cars are going to be toast in the very near future without preventative/corrective action being taken, polsta wrote:Thing is with them, as the pics of yours show and various threads and restos on here-areas like the inner arch areas they are all rust and need that sealant all taken back and rust attended too, the bulkhead and floor under the deadening aswell, they are all rusting if you hunt it out and don't kid yourself

The difference is, and as my restore thread is testament to, the "unseen" rust on an E30 is usually saveable. All the doom and gloom about rusty sills and rotten floorpans is scaremongering, since an afternoon with a MIG and an angle grinder will get it back to perfect rust-free solid status, and the only impact on the resale value will be a positive one.
In contrast, rotten quarter panels and roofs need very good welding skills, followed by the expert administrations of a good painter. Anything less makes the car look like a patched up dog.
In this case, a penny-sized blister on the roof skin, even if it only means welding in a matchbox-sized patch, means taking the headliner and windscreen out, a hawk eye to keep the roof line in shape to prevent heat distortion, and then a full roof respray which costs a LOT. And that's if the rust hasn't spread to the sunroof cassette.
That's what turns a six grand garage queen into a sub-grand shitbox.

I say vast majority/all those that say they have "a rust free" e30- only the ones that have not checked - under the deadening and the sealant there will be rust, from what I've seen it starts as surface and rust doesn't break through that sealant until its late in the daygoosiegander wrote:Indeed, even on cars without the body kits, all of the void/box sections on the majority of cars are going to be toast in the very near future without preventative/corrective action being taken, polsta wrote:Thing is with them, as the pics of yours show and various threads and restos on here-areas like the inner arch areas they are all rust and need that sealant all taken back and rust attended too, the bulkhead and floor under the deadening aswell, they are all rusting if you hunt it out and don't kid yourself

Fertan, leave for a few days, and waxoyl all cavities is a great measure , pour it in the sills, sunroof drain holes, doors, scuttle etc is a must do and will do wonders for longetivity

Brilliant.
Thanks lads.
Step 1 find a sunroof panel.
Step 2 get a camera and start clicking.
Might stick it up for sale in a few weeks after its done.
See what tickles my fancy.
Im thinking e46 m3.
Or might just go back to the old cossie's for a bit..
Decisions decisions.......

As for Tech1s besides the 20000 mile one does anyone actually have one that has never had any rust or been in accident or low mileage with FBMWSH out there ? Or do they all have rust and high miles ?

Yeh, im thinking e46 m3 aswell.....
Ive had loads of cossies before (including a white 1)!!
The last 1 was about 7-8 years ago.. Brilliant cars but
They tend to take a fancy to your bank balance!!
As for rust free low mile examples, i dunno.
Mine's got 112k on the clock (fsh) which is low
For a 25 year old car. Its hpi clear still got all the original
Panels. Which is good for a 25 year old car.
Rust wise it looks genrally rust free. Scuttles, arches,
Boot, jacking points ect...... All look good.
Ive taken skirts, bumpers ect off and its all clean...
So , yeh.. There are some around...

The Essex boy Cosworths / RS Fords I didn't really like them too much growing up though I did love the Focus RS Mk1. Now I think they are just so cool compared to the usual BMWs/ Mercs people drive. Who does love a fast lairy Ford in Essex boy white showing all these prestige makes upmng786 wrote:pony wrote:Get the E46 M3 unless u happen to get a white Sierra Cosworths Essex boy stylemng786 wrote:Brilliant.
