Hi all,

Someone asked me if it´s possible to retrofit an OBC to a 316i? I have seen OBC´s on 318is, M3´s and 6 cylinders.

How about 316´s?, was there a plug on the 6 button or 13 button OBC to make it compatible with the M40/316?

Thanks,

you can fit an OBC to any E30 question is how many of the functions do you want to work.

6 buttons are obviously alot easier and to get a 13 button's basic features to work is also easy but if you want everything working it can be quite a task on a car that never had one.

How much of a task I don't know you'll have to wait for someone with more knowledge on the matter to give a more detailed response

Yes, it should be possible, though you may need to install the appropriate wiring loom and 4-cylinder coding plug:

Thanks,

So we can say that a 316 could work with the 4 cylinder plug, which I believe it´s part # 65811394111. Other than that all the connectors should fit behind the instruments cluster, right?

Anyone with a 316 had experience with either a 6 or 13 button OBC retrofit?

I recently put a 13 button in a 325, not that bad tbh, you just need glove box and under dash panel, cluster, heater panel and stalk removed, just make sure before hand your kit and looms are 100% complete and double check

Also make sure the light bar works or get new bulbs done before installing

Thank you polsta, I also have a 325i and had installed an OBC some time ago, this is how it looks:

I think your advice is key here, the wire loom has to be perfect, I remember I bought the whole OBC kit on ebay, with the wiring harness in good condition. I remember I had to change the bulbs on mine.

I am just curious about the feasibility of this mod on a 316 from an acquaintance of mine, for me it´s a cool upgrade for an E30. :) ...despite the wildly optimistic fuel range function, hehe.
