Have you checked your clutch fluid? If there is none in there you could have a leak in the clutch slave cylinder or its knackered.. check all the lines for leaks
if there wern't people like me,
with cars like mine,
who would you put down to make yourself feel better?

Have you tried pumping the pedal to raise the pressure? Not sure where all the clutch cylinders resevoirs are, but on a 325i it is a small plastic bottle on the driver side of the engine bay next to the brake cylinder. Next too, not the ones on the brake cylinder.

Yes, DOT 4 is the stuff to use.

However, you'll probably need to bleed the slave cylinder (which sits behind the gearbox bellhousing on the nearside), and check for leaks while you're at it.

Check the master cylinder behind the brake pedal for leaks; I had this problem with a newly purchased 320iSE, and had to fit a new master cylinder - about £35 from the local motor factors.

A quick search of Euro car parts website suggest they now go for £53.40 or thereabouts:

It might be the master cylinder leaking.....

I've just changed my Transit master cylinder because of this (brake but much the same thing) I had no leaks but could pump the pressure back enough to operate brakes. Sit on the pedal and it would slowly go to the floor.
Sadly, as is always these days, just changing seals wasn't possible, NLA  Bunged a new master cylinder on, job done. Took my old cylinder apart for a look and sure enough, seals shot. Was only £50 for a new one so not bad really.

well checked around for leaks in the footwell , pulled back the rubber on the master cylinder and dont seem to be fluid anywhere theres a bit off grease and that under the rubber but surely thats there just to keep it smooth?

so it still could be the master even tho it aint leaking?

Try bleeding the slave cylinder first.
