Wonder if its possible/easy , in theory it sounds simple

Find my iPhone is pretty good and reliable if your iPhone is lost or stolen so- a bit like them other older gprs sim card tracker things but

Buy/use an older used iPhone model (3-3gs say)- cheapest "sim only" 12 month deal (£5 a month ?), hide the iPhone somewhere clever in your car with a constant power source- and you then have a tracker in your car that you can track from your phone in the move using the find myiphone app or from any computer

Even if the battery was disconnected, just on standby the phones battery would last a couple of days or so

What do you think

you can also do this with an android phone that has GPS.....and it will be cheaper than a fruit based phone....

I think if you have the right software you can track a sim card without it being in a phone. So same idea no phone !!!

But it would still need to be in a device with power and an Ariel

I think the iPhone uses the GPS, not the mobile network gprs, which just a sim would use

Thinking about it, does findmyiphone work without a SIM card in it ? Meaning you wouldn't need a sim?

But another use would mean you also always had a phone in your car in an emergency or if you lost yours etc , if you also used an iPhone- and list it and had your car in vacinity you could also quickly find and track your own phone aswell, handy

Not quite right, the SIM needs to be in a device thats capable of powering the SIM, and RX/TX the information....

A SIM on its own has no power source, nor no RX/TX.....

Pick up a chesp used/well used 3GS for well under a ton,or your old one, or free even from someone, and if you used an iPhone yourself it would be better than android, but the app works very very well/perfect, unlike some android apps

Its just the total ease of use and reliability that it would probably give

Would be easy to test it out with 2 iPhones, you could get a friend to drive around and park up in various places, under cover car parks, out in the sticks, built up areas etc whilst you follow and track and find them, and just see how well it works and any problems encountered, gonna have a go at this I think out of curiosity
