Looking for a bit of advice...

Hi guys,
I have been more of a lurker than a poster on here,
I recently bought this from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281135637290? ... 1497.l2649
I seen a thread saying it was overpriced however to me it was worth paying as i didn't have the skills or the space to build the car.
I have now been offered a chance at an e30 M3 from a long time friend of mine and i just can't justify keeping both,
My question here is... What is a reasonable price to resell it at? I know i wont recover my £5,300 back, Would it be suicide to do a 99p listing on ebay and let it find a value?

If the M3 is a sensible price and your going to be keeping it, it may be worth taking a slight loss on the 318is. The m3 value won't be going down any time soon

I think from looking around a loss is unavoidable,
It's just finding the balance between minimizing the loss but also pricing it at a fair price, you guys see these cars on a daily basis and i'm hoping will be able to help me value it.

Harsh as it sounds, be prepared to lose a few grand on your new toy. You might be very lucky and get 4k for it, but not if you need a quick sell.

The 318is is worth more in its original condition and engine.
As the one you have is converted it I am not sure if its value would be the same and I have seen the good 318is go for £2k.
Best bet is Ebay to expose the car to those who may want the conversion.

That would have been me!!! Missed that car by a day! I thought £5300 was a really good price! I've now bought a mint "is" for £2500 and plan on spending that again on the conversion!
I think put car back up at what you paid, in the months I was looking I never saw anything as nice as that! It comes back to the same thing. If you want a spot on e30 and you think it's too expensive, go find a better one! Good luck finding better than that!

I disagree. Something like this depends on the quality of the conversion. If everything has been done to an excellent standard there is no reason this isn't a £3.5-£4k car. But it would need a very nice exhaust, not 5 different systems stuck together with pigeon shit welding and good wiring mods, not scotchlocks and bits of bell wire making up a wiring loom that looks like Satans nervous systemFastroad wrote:The 318is is worth more in its original condition and engine.

I'm sure you could sell it for close to what you paid if it is as nice as the advert/pics suggest. I would have bought something nice like that if I would have known the amount of time, money, effort and general aggravation restoring my turd as been so far.

This is very true, unless your building out of the joy of doing it, you could not replicate this car for the asking price. Thanks for the help guys, It really does drive great and was built to a very good standard by Monkey on this forum.

This conversion is definitely not a lash up. The car was built to a high standard and if i remember correctly, it has a full custom stainless system. No reason it shouldn't fetch a good sum then. Best bet is to have it up for sale somewhere like here rather than eBay as chances are the conversion work may be recognised/valued greater than on a general market place.Cook318IS wrote:This conversion is definitely not a lash up. barely skimming the posts, i have to chime in...
i bought a very cheap e30 for a few hundred...got it running and sold it for 5,000 (i asked 6500)
i did fix it, t.belt, new brakes (even new e-pads), every single hose (even the T, and heater hoses), sparco seats, new wheels, tires, and thats it...it was a turn key drifter (still is) but my point, is here:
the 318 (especially if its a slick top) is very valuable for racers.
its lighter
its cheaper to insure
its cheaper to license, tax, etc...
and yours...well, its faster than almost anything on the roads.
so, i would just sit back, and ask to break even on it...
don't hurry, and don't be in a rush.
when i sold mine, i put in the ad that '
"this car is made for driving, and even though i can drive it hard, i do cherish it. So, I will demand id and thumbprint prior to any road testing"
i could share you my actual selling page, (pm me), as i got about 40 hits in a week, and i was able to sell it to the people i wanted to have it go to.
... went to a young girl and her bf who already owned e30s, and had e30s in their family... and one more note...
my car was stripped of carpetting, and basically a drift ready car, with a stock engine, dents, a bit of rust (but very small), cracked windsheild, etc...
i made the clients want the car, and there was a a few diamonds out there who woulda made good owners, but the young chap who did buy it, will very likely have a very fun time with it for many years to come.
(sorry, i rant a lot).
and here's a pic that i used to sell mine.... just for a taste...
you absolutely HAVE to get good pictures....and i was really planning to keep that car forever, but

i had a friend offer up an e30M3...so, i jumped. (took a week to sell it, but it was a tough week)
also, there are very few exceptionally well built cars that are
-fun
-safe
-easy to drive and attainable.
the e30 also has a good fan base.
yours will sell, and if you put enough effort into it, you very well may get a bit of profit from it.
there are people out there who would LOVE your car but could never do it b/c they don't have a garage, or don't have the extra time needed to sort it all out...what you got is a turn key sleeper....
cash in on it.
