I will be turning 17 next month and I was wondering how much roughly it would cost to get insured on my dads E30. My dad Is with Lancaster on a classic car policy and pays £200 odd quid. Anyone know much it would be under his name?
Thanks
Thanks

Ask Lancaster for a quote. Insurance quotes have so many variables.

Classic policies often have a minimum age limit (for the driver) of 21 or 25 so you'll need to check that first.

Yeah I thought the mimimum age was 25 too...Morat wrote:Classic policies often have a minimum age limit (for the driver) of 21 or 25 so you'll need to check that first.
What E30 is your Dad's as that will have a massive bearing on insurability. A 316 will be slightly cheaper to insure than a 325!! Don't hold your breath if it's on a classic policy though..

Drive a sh*tbox for a year or two and build up your own NCB, then buy your own E30 and insure it under your name!SAP1 wrote:Hope fully there isn't a age limit. Really wanna get insured on it. Better then driving a corsa sh1tbox

Lancaster will insure you but will cost a 2 arms and maybe legs. I asked for a quote it was something crazy like 2k+. I am 22 with two years ncb held my license for 2 years too. I have two cars which I am the registered keeper on and insured as the first main driver for 1100. The e30 is now insured on my dads policy and i am a named driver and I am paying £1600 with £90 excess. But my dad has two accidents both of which were at fault, but has full NCB protected.

I looked at quotes to put my 17 year old son, newly passed his test, on my 318 cab, but al the quotes were stratospheric, wrong end of £3.5 to £4k.
He bought a Herald 13/60 convertible and insured it FC in his own name for £950, mum and dad as named drivers. If he gets a year's NCB the insurance on the E30 really tumbles and he's not going to lose any value in the Herald.
If you can't get insured on the E30 try looking at something other than the usual barry boy Corsa/Nova/Fiesta/Focus rubbish as these fall into the typical teenage boy racer trap.

When I first passed my test over 5 years ago, I paid less than 1k on an E30 touring 1.6 with my dad on the policy.
Seems to have gone up in price a lot since then.

When I first passed I paid 1600 as a named driver on my 320is. I used the car for 6 months before garaging it for the winter. I transferred the insurance onto a polo 1.4 and paid exactly the same. I didn't get a years no claims because I was a named driver.
The following year I tried insuring a 316, and was quoted 4K. I tried a sport, just to see the difference and it was only 500 quid more.
Tell your son not to be disheartened as when I got my first years no claims my IS dropped down to 500quid on my own policy. For some reason it is the cheapest e30 I can insure and its the same price as my little 106 daily. I reckon a 316, with a years no claims would be around 700/800 mark.

Read one of the comments instead by accident! Then replied to it
I think it will cost you around 2k if I'm honest just talking from experience. Insurance companies just charge young drivers a small fortune

I am 29 but have only had my license for a year and so could not get classic car insurance. A few I spoke to required a full license to have been held for at least 3 years.Sanchez wrote:normally 25 for classic.
