So I've bought my first e30 got a 320 vert a few bits to sort one of which being the dials not working correctly the speedo doesn't work all the time but may come on with a slap of the dash then work fine for the rest if the trip but doesn't do the trick everytime, rev counter and fuel gauges are fine but temp gauge is not working either I've done as the wiki says and earthed the pin on the big wiring block in engine bay and got nothing and I've had the clocks out and apart and got rid of corrosion and tightened nuts but nothing on the temp gauge at all any other ideas or any e30 wiz around Portsmouth to lend a hand ? Sorry for the story thanks

Despite the cluster slapping, the speedo issue could still be related to the diff sensor, or rather the wiring to it. The wiki outlines the repair for that.
For the temp gauge, have you actually disconnected the brown plug from its sensor on the engine, and shorted that plug to ground? Should make the gauge react. I don't know what "big wiring block in the engine bay" you mean.

By the big block I met the c101 sorry and I did pin 4 as wiki says and got nothing so I didn't bother doing the plug on the engine block
