Just relised that I haven't updated this for months (Mybad!)
Well the car is mobile now and in daily use, still a few odd jobs to do, but main things are:
Uprated brakes/suspension/wheels
Swap the 4.10 320i diff for 3.07 lsd
unichip
and a few other small things

Im surprised you havnt blown that 4.10 diff to pieces Andy
All that high rpm would seriously p1ss me off, I can just about tolerate this 3.25 diff on the motorway
Hows the hot running going?

Still on the 15" BBS atm hehe, soon to be 5 stud
it is annoying topping out at an indicated 110mph! Although very quick getting there
The diff is getting very noisy now
Was hoping to have the E36 on the road by now, in order to get some more done to the E30, but oh well. In time.
I was going to pm you dude, still running the needle width over the half way mark moving up towards 3/4 when you boot it, but soon returning to just above the center, although the other day while driving it fairly gently (30mph) up a steep hill it did get halfway between the center and 3/4 mark and stayed there for a while which I though was odd as it wasn't that loaded and it was cool (raining!) so I pulled over shortly afterwards and the pipes were pretty solid
also did it again a couple of days later and I noticed when I lifted the bonnet the rad cap had leaked a very small amount of water
I am thinking the leccy fan may be seized (fuse is ok), or the thermostat may be sticky, although it was a new BMW one when we put the engine in.
Is the S50 Rad bigger in terms of cooling capacity?
Andy

The S50 is the biggest rad you can get in the bay and is ideal, I bought one brand new and would of used it if it wasnt for my airbox being in the way
so instead I took it back and bought a brand new standard M20 one which was fine at first (when the weather was hot!) but seems to have deteriorated over time
Drilling the stat was a waste of time and money
Next plan is to hunt down an 80Ԛ° stat of the right shape and size
Im starting to think maybe the water pump impellors are slipping on the shaft?
Did you use a new water pump Andy? Its the only thing I havnt replaced with new

I didn't replace the waterpump, but did have it out to check and it has metal impellers that were firmly attached
Is it an M50 or M52 you have dude?
Is there such a thing as an electronic type thermostat?
I did an M50 one (plastic type) a couple of weeks ago, as you say impellers spinning on the shaft.
