I met someone on a job recently who is selling a 'uber rare' 1 of 1 VW MK1 Golf with factory fitted Turbo. It has delivery miles on it and was made for some Middle Eastern fat cat.
Assuming it's what he says it is, is it worth the £12K+ he's asking for it? Is it an investment prospect?
I have no reason to think he is full of it as he's an older professional type who needs not impress anyone.
Pics up tonight hopefully.

Personally I would say yes based on how much good condition low mileage mk 1's are going for now a days. I assume it's mint?
Who did the turbo conversion? And as with things like this provenance is everything so what documentation is with it?

Update.
The guy I met is a friend of the owner. The owner used to work for some kind of King or Sultan in the mid or far east and that's who he got it off. He says there is proof of what the car is and this guy has had it for ages. He also said he never drives it - strictly garage - doesn't not even go to shows.
It's LHD and black.
I'm trying to pics today and it's just outside the M25 London.
Could be a very cool car - Turbos are a popular mod for that car but never a factory one.

No, not at all. The Hartge H36 was not TUV approved but they still made six, all for export.Royalratch wrote:Would TÃaV approval be required if was a one-off for immediate export and not for sale in Germany?
Rules and regulations are a minor inconvenience when you have enough money !

I'm sure the dude has more pressing matters on the weekend - I'll prod him later this evening.
BMW didn't build it though, some axe wielding craftsmen did. I would be very surprised if a manufacturer like VW let something like this out of the gates.pacerpete wrote:No, not at all. Make that three, I'll buy anything if it is cheap enough or odd enough, even a gullwinged Golf with a gearknob trimmed in camel foreskin

You try and help people! The dude is flaky as hell.
I'll post something if it ever shows up.
As for epic pedoing - you should throw an offer in B7.
Never really been a VAG man TBH.

I've had a couple, mainly as a bit of fun for me while a daily for the wife. To me it was an ideal combination on the drive at the time. An e34 525 SEa and a Golf GTI. Happy days.
