Hi All. Was on the motorway yesterday and managed to blow my engine. It's done genuine 92k miles with FSH. The car's in impeccable condition: have spent a small fortune! Was travelling at 70 mph - :) - and oil light came on. Though I pulled over as quickly as I could, car now sounds like a very noisy tractor. Damage done!

The big Q- do I recon the engine or install a low mileage replacement unit?

Any pointers please?

PS- would be interested in a low mileage (with FSH) engine as I suspect that maybe the cheapest option. :thumb:

Sadly if the oil light comes on its alredy too late :(

The difference in money between recon and second hand is considerable. There will always be an element of risk involved in buying a second hand engine, so buy one that you have seen running and from a reputable breaker on here if you can. Don't hold out for something low mileage with FSH, you will more than likely be waiting a very long time. There are some that offer guarentees with engines, myself included, but I dont have any complete ones in stock at the moment. It is strange yours has given up at such a low milage, its not uncommon to see 200000 miles on these.

Where abouts are you?

I've had it for 4 years and it's done 3k miles, if that, in that time. It's something that's generally stored.

I'm in Bradford, West Yorkshire, considerably north of Watford Gap! :)

Difficult one to answer without knowing history/mileage. There's one on FleaBay that's done 103k miles for £325. I'm genuinely dipping my toe so I have no idea of market rate. Why, WHY?

PS the reason my gave up is that there was no oil in it, much to my horror/surprise!!!

I have a SWEET engine down here west of London. It has done 160k BUT only 50 k since a rebuild with a BRAND NEW head and only a few thousand miles since a £450 ( :o 8O  ) cambelt/ waterpump change. It can be seen running and will be sold with a warranty, dependant on you putting oil in it obviously ! :( :)
