Gonna service the 316i tomorrow and a bit spoilt for choice of oil!

What oil do you use/recommend?

I'm tempted by Mobil 1, this is just curiosity.

10w/40 its an old engine so not worth sending money on name brands . Halford's are still doing the £10 for 4 litre deal

Not sure it hasnt been done in the 3 months i've had it as i hardly use the car. I'm taking it on a little day trip to Wales in a couple of days so it's getting some attention lol

My dad put tesco stuff in his 911 once.

On that basis you could use asda oil. Or even tap water!

On a serious note. Being a low performance engine. Get the right grade and any brand. As long as oil is fresh it does good

Last time I changed oil, I used Shell Helix HX7 10w40 - was recommended by ECP.

Halfords stuff in the metallic green bottle, semi synth 10/40w iirc.
Very long term tested in more than one m20 with not negative effects, bearing loads are pretty low on these engines.

m3.3.1 m20 thread - now running, chip needed - any volunteers?

Halfords oil is made by comma

all e30s ive had ive used the cheapest 10-40w semi

oil technology is far more superior now than it was when the turds were built :)
