Is the output shaft on a M42 gearbox a couple of inches shorter than that on a M40 gearbox? 99% sure it is but just wanted to check.

the IS uses the same gearbox as a 325i sport, a getrag 270 (iirc)

m40s arent used with sports boxes, so i wud imagine that it would be shorter yes

The 318is uses the same Gearbox as a M40 but the output shaft is shorter.
