So my fuel pump died on me, bought another off of eBay, followed this guide to fit another: http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f92 ... mp-t26375/

I realise it's not the zone but it was the first one that came up on Google!

I've got as far as refitting the pump in the tank, was angling it in carefully when the damn strainer fell off into the tank!

I'm a bit stuck as to what to do now. Thought I might try draining the tank to see if I can fish it out, tried the method you see on films by sucking the fuel into a hose and then letting it drain into a can, all that got me was a bad taste in my mouth.

HELP!

You don't need to drain the tank; you just need a length of stiff wire and some needlenose pliers, and a lot of patience. I've dropped the strainer in more than once, and fished it out through the pump hole eventually.

I had a feeling that was the answer. I have been at it with a wire coat hanger, but patience is definitely not my strong suit. I don't even know where about in the tank it is.

BTW, to stop it happening again, can I glue the strainer on?

Haha! Fished it out, refitted it to pump, managed to get the pump in place in the tank and then realises I haven't put the f**king seal back in place! FFS!!!!!
