Your car should do a slightly more miles per kilogram of LPG than it does per kilogram of petrol, since LPG combusts more efficiently than petrol in a spark ignition engine. BUT, since the density of LPG is around 0.5 and that of petrol is 0.7 something, this equates to a decrease of around 20% when both fuels are measured in litres.
LPG is inherently safe when compared with petrol, and the storage used on cars bares no comparison - flimsy metal or plastic container containing a volatile liquid that will form puddles around your feet and soak into your clothes if it leaks, compared with a bomb proof container, fitted with electrically operated shut off valves, containing a liquid that, in the unlikely event of it escaping, will blow away in the wind, and is surprisingly difficult to ignite.
A DIY single point mixer system is easy enough for someone with reasonable mechanical skills, and can be done in easy stages. There are no mods. to the engine itself - just a couple of bits to attach to the air meter/filter assembly, plus the bits required to store and feed the LPG to the front of the car, convert it to a gas (with a connection to the car's cooling system), and meter it to the air filter.

My E34 running on LPG does about 20% WORSE MPG. 25 on the computer usually means about 21mpg.

That's what I said! This is because you are measuring the fuel by volume (in litres), instead of by weight, which is a much fairer comparison.MrT8064 wrote:My E34 running on LPG does about 20% WORSE MPG. 25 on the computer usually means about 21mpg.
