Forget breaking it. It will take forever to make any sort of sizeable return. If the car is half decent , it is worth more complete, moody history or not.
thanks for the input pete, much appreciated.to be honest its complete, doors need sorting couple of niggly bits nothing major and my mate is a bmw specialist and has worked on a couple of z1's before.i had plans to take my dad to essen motorshow next year in it.would surely get some interest there and on the plus side his best mate/my fake uncle lives in luxembourg so could possibly send it back over there.pacerpete wrote:That needs buying and sending back to Europe where its 'interesting' history will be irrelevant. I nearly bought this for about £3.5K 3 years ago.
I calculated the cost and it was not really worth it. But I was lucky to supply some of the parts to fix it so both the new owner and I were fortunate.
This ended up being a "D" unfortunatelymabz wrote:senna wrote:pacerpete wrote:That needs buying and sending back to Europe where its 'interesting' history will be irrelevant. Not at 9k though ! looks leggy but clearly saveable so a cat c/cat d not a major issue to a z1??.i have been thinking it wouldnt take much for an insurance company to cat c a z1 due to the panels being plastic etc/expensive??
to be honest i was thinking the 5.5k to 6.5k mark which i feel is fair.

That would be me. We are not a tight bunch, Z1s are a niche market and not very popular in here, so we keep a low profilepukar wrote: have you checked the BMW car club register of Z1s. the guy who is the "moderator! might know of a z1 that is for sale but not on the market..i'm guessing they are a tight bunch. perhaps someone has given a idea that they might be considering selling in a conversation??
word of warning!! being a car club member's car does not mean it is any good (pete will attest to this), but you might at least find one...

I do know of one for sale as it happens, but I gather Mabz is looking for a below market price deal, so didn't mention it.
Love this comment!pacerpete wrote:BMW made over 7000 of these , so they are hardly rare, just all stashed away waiting to become valuable. Alas most people that have them think they are in custody of the crown jewels. They drive well in a 325 convertible with a fancy frock kind of way but are tedious to use on a regular basis .
Any Z1 specific parts are very expensive/difficult to obtain. Every one I have been involved in has been hard work to sell and I recall there was only a decent profit turned on one of them![]()
If you want a quirky 2 seater BMW to satisfy your inner gayness a Z3M is a far better car
