fuel leak under the the throttle body m40
Moderator: martauto
Right I've got a leak on the very short bit of hose under the throttle body top half on my 92. M40 is there anyway of getting to this without removing the tb as I know that can cause issues it's the bit of rubber pipe that feeds the injector rail I think plus this is the second fuel leak in as many months and I changed the fuel pump for a new one 6 months ago that has recently started whining and wasn't an exact fit of the old pump could it be to powerfull and be over pressuring my fuel lines??
These'll show you what parts you need:-

Best to not mess about and rather put new gaskets in that joint between the two sections of inlet manifold.Rorym2010 wrote:I've removed one from my other car not so long ago will I need to replace. The seal between the two?

New gaskets are ideal, but in practice they don't normally give trouble if they are left in place on the lower half, so that they go back exactly in the position they were.
It's a reasonably easy job, I've done it a couple if Times, it took Me a couple of hoursLaher wrote:I think I've got a fuel leak in exactly the same place ! Thanks for this info.
How much would a mechanic charge to sort this ?

So I managed to sort it without removing anything but the bolt that holds the two metal pipes down and the idle control valve admittedly was a very fiddly job but only took 30 mins and cost me nothing but a bit of sweat and an inch of fuel pipe

It would still have cost zero pennies if you'd whipped the upper manifold off, as BMW intended! Would have also been zero bad words and zero sweat.
I've removed one before Brian an it can be quite fiddly plus there's a good chance of the gasket splitting an in such short time I wasn't sure I could get hold of a replacement plus in this weather I would of broke a sweat even changing a wiper blade in 30 degree plus weather with zero wind which was the case that day
