After hours of faffing I finally found the fan problem - the circuit to the negative pin on the low temp fan relay had burned... Bypassed it to another earth and all is well now.
After cleaning up the bonnet I put the heat cloth on:

I moved all the pipework for the washers underneath so it looks a little cleaner:

Then put some more helicopter tape where the rubber bummp stops hit the bonnet:

I think I'll be painting the front hub covers black from gold to hide them a little:

So on to finishing the dash wiring.
All that was left was the fuel gauge and speedo. After chatting with Theo who is installing the same dash at the moment it was decided to not rely on the .5amp 5volt supply from the dash or logger so built a 5v transformer into a box I had in stock along with a potential divider for the fuel level:

Then spent ages filling the tank 2ltrs at a time to get the correct readings for the dash:
This is what the 'map' of the tank looks like once we convert the resistance of the 2 tank level sensors into a voltage:

I wired in the speedo sender and then sent the new programme to the dash. I'm still fiddling with warning levels etc but getting there:

Then it was off to the MOT, surprisingly she passed first time!
So now with MOT and Tax I could drive her a few miles down the road and setup the suspension. This was yesterday morning, I got there at 10am and finally left at 5pm being relatively pleased with the setup I got. Ages ago I bought some rear beam adjusters from DanThe and they are great meaning the rear adjusted up perfectly, the only problem was having to drop the rear beam to make adjustments! I forgot to take any pictures of the final adjustments but they are based on an M3 with various changes to suit a track car.
I didn't get round to setting up corner weights (ok ok I forgot until the end) but I was quite happy with them, the following is from just getting ride heights correct (with a serious amount of weights in the drivers seat to simulate my, erm, extensive body!)

The car is no lightweight but then I haven't actually tried to save weight anywhere... Yet!

Unfortunately on the way home giving it beans for the first time I have realised it is in limp mode, the car wont rev over 5k rpm
I think this is due to my dash and the ecu not getting a speed signal to the ECU. Dan The has offered me an ecu that doesnt need that input so I just need to put the old dash back in see if it runs properly.
I was hoping to do a track evening at Brands with Theo this Friday but if I can't get the car out of limp mode it would be pretty pointless!
Jobs left to do:
- Fix limp mode!
- Get a custom exhaust place to sort the exhaust, I have lost my patience with it and it has never sat properly.
- Sort a rear spoiler, I took mine off years ago and forgot about it!
- Weep from the diff plug
- Abuse it on track.
So close now!

I finally got this out on track in September and it was a hoot to drive. I had a slight issue with the exhaust hitting the steering column on hard left handers but I now have akg mounts to fit so this doesn't happen any more.
The car is hibernating in my garage whilst I have a land rover bowler comp safari racer in the workshop taking up all my time! Once the roads have finished being salted I will get the car out again and fit the new engine mounts and she will be good to go. Looking at possibly doing a destination nurburgring in 2014 to actually use it in anger
I think I will start looking at some more power for next winter as although it is huge fun at the moment I think it could be more fun with more power!

Its the only way to go really, as soon as you get enough grip the standard engine mounts soon let go!winx wrote:I finally got this out on track in September and it was a hoot to drive. I fitted a right angle bracket and a suitably trimmed old engine mount that presses sideways against the chassis leg to 100% prevent any movement in that direction. Had the steering try and lock up once before this, never again!
