Going to pick up a new car and it's got an oil leak. Leaves a puddle when parked up.
Below is a pic of where it's leaking from. Any ideas on what could be causing the leak?

Erm, I"m not sure but is that the slot than Brian refers to in THIS thread?
If so, is she losing clutch fluid?

It could be that, looks a similar place to where it's leaking from.
I haven't collected the car yet so can't check but have asked the seller to check it.
Cheers

Clutch fluid if you're lucky; engine oil if you're not, or even gearbox oil if you're one of these people who are a walking disaster area. Taste will identify which it is.

If it's engine oil, are we taking £££ to sort it? Or even gearbox oil?
How would you go about finding where the leak is from, engine/gearbox out?

If it's engine oil, it's probably a failed sump gasket, or just possibly the rear crank seal. I'd much rather change a clutch slave cylinder than a M20 sump gasket! Not expensive in parts, just a pita to do, as gromgsxr has said.

Okay thanks for the replies, i'll have a closer look when I pick up the car.
No chance of me changing the gasket then. I'll probably get a garage or a Zone hero
to change it if that's the issue.
1 to 2 hour job?

This is weird, sorry for hijacking a thread again. But I think mine is leaking from exactly the same place

Get the car up and remove bit that bolts round the back of the sump to the gearbox for a better look, first time I did a sump gasket was about 4 hrs on my back stairing up and swearing how to get the sump off. There a how to on the wiki if I had read that first would have helped, good luck

Without air tools, it must be about two hours just to get all the bolts off.
