Hi folks, is there any reason I shouldn't fit a 90A alternator from an early E34 with M20 engine to my 325i which had an 80A item? The brackets are different but I can change them. Both units are Bosch. Will the increased output have any detrimental effect on the system?

I put an E34 M20 into my Touring, complete with alternator. The only issue is that the E34 unit has a "chimney", which connects to some sort of vent on the E34. On an E30, this chimney is in the way of the AFM, so needs to be taken off with an angle grinder.

No issues with the actual workings of the unit though.

It won't have any increased output, just the potential for an increased output if it was required.
