Yeah i want to keep the car as stock as possible so no kits etc! When people say BBS do they mean the original bmw BBS or BBS in general?
I am a pretty much a detailing addict and have a lot of gear so the car will be polished up in no time! thanks for the reply

Original BMW BBS are plentiful, cheap and of high quality. They also fit properly and shouldn't have much (any?) impact on your insurance since they are OEM equipment
The bigger, flashier BBS are also high quality but they are neither cheap nor plentiful
I look forward to seeing before and after pics of your detailing! This could be a really nice looking E30 from what we've seen so far!

Very good point mate, i will have a look on the parts section to see if anyone has a set!
, I will put them on here when im done mate but gonna buy some new pads and a nice new wax first
If you look on the first page of this thread, you will see the picture i uploaded on the engine bay and the rust on the top cover, do you know if that can be changed?
cheers mate

I've never had a carbed E30 - but I'm sure it can be, you can probably buy an entire running engine for your car for £150
Get your Uncle to put the thing up on a ramp and prod the underside good and proper before you get too attached! Then start looking up exciting products like Waxoil, POR-15 and Hydrate-80. They're just as much fun as polishing the top
Best of luck.

If you're talking about the air filter housing, take it off, rub it down, primer and a few coats of black satin paint will have it like New.Junglistjed wrote:Very good point mate, i will have a look on the parts section to see if anyone has a set!, I will put them on here when im done mate but gonna buy some new pads and a nice new wax first

But he would have the option of an engine upgrade once his insurance dropsGrrrmachine wrote:Doing all that to a 316 is like putting a diamond ring on a freshly-squeezed turd.Fastroad wrote:Depends how far you want to go with the look you could put a Mtech2 kit, 15" Bbs, shadow line trim and Mtech leathers, Mtech steering wheel and then it would look the part.

It'll only be surface rust. Get it decreased, rubbed down to bare metal where it's corroded and I'm sure you'll be able to find some tutorials on the web for prep and painting. Taking it off will give you a good chance to inspect the fuel hoses.

Lower it, some nice bbs wheels then make it as clean as possible. That'll turn a lot more heads than bolting bits from higher spec models on!

It's a pre facelift poverty spec turd, albeit a nice clean one owner turd. A tech II kit would ruin it. If you're talking engine transplants look at dezzy's or simon13's with how to go about modding a chrome.Fastroad wrote:But he would have the option of an engine upgrade once his insurance dropsGrrrmachine wrote:Doing all that to a 316 is like putting a diamond ring on a freshly-squeezed turd.Fastroad wrote:Depends how far you want to go with the look you could put a Mtech2 kit, 15" Bbs, shadow line trim and Mtech leathers, Mtech steering wheel and then it would look the part.

So would changing the bumpers to facelift not be worth doing? and should the exhaust be left? sticks out at a weird angle!

That's how the exhausts are, leave it like that until it rusts through then you can consider changing it for a different style.
As for the bumpers, iirc you can't swap them, no. I'm sure someone with greater knowledge will advise correctly though.

With time, money and a welder you can get facelift bumpers onto a prefacelift, but for the amount of work involved it just isn't worth it.
If you make that car look like a road warrior and people see the 316 badge on the back, you're going to get w@nker gestures all the way down the high street. Keep the car simple and it'll attract the right sort of attention.

dont ruin it by fitting facelift bumpers..
as said a set of 15" bbs wheels and polished..
also the lip spoiler on the ebay link you posted is horrible..
If you are really wanting a spoiler save youre pennies for a tech1 spoiler which is more fitting to the age of the car.
also you could fit a "jimmy hill " lip on the front thats as far as I would take it.
If you do lower it don't deck it just a nice drop even on a set of sport springs and it would suit it plus still be practical

Here is what i'd do to that car (my car started life as a basic model and now its a basic model with some goodies on it)Junglistjed wrote:Its a 2 door coupe, and i would buy any e30 for the shape, im not bothered about spec to be honest! Any idea's on how to improve the look of it?
Heres my motor, no spoiler and on shiney wheels

BUT mine is a facelift & Yours is a pre-facelift
If my name was on the V5, i would..
-Replace the headlights with some smileys (facelift headlights) and get some HIDs fitted, they dont blind oncoming traffic and project 100 times better light giving great visibility at night.
-Polish them bumpers so they remain nice and shiney
-Buy a set of BBS 15", Hartge 16" or Alpina 16"wheels, oem wheels always have a market and look great too. (I have a set of BBS 15" for the wet months so my other wheels dont get ruined quickly)
-Spoiler wise, either no spoiler or a tech1 (bit expensive but i say get them before they get ridiculously over priced)
-Fix that mismatched door and front wing damage
Do the above first and then get into lowering it and putting a set rims on. As time goes on, you will keep changing your mind on how you want your car to look..
When i first started on my e30 i wanted to smoke the headlights, black kidney grill, smoked indicators, se side skirts, tech2 lower valance and gloss black rub stripes. And owning the car for under a year, ive changed my mind and stuck a tech2 kit on it (minus spoiler), left the orange indicators (retro
If i had a chomie i'd want it similar to this..

But i'd end up making it look like the red one in the background

The colour of that car is Wine Red (Wein Rot). Not Carmine or Calypso. Looks well on a chromie imho.
