Is the aircon temperature gauge different to the standard one?

Talking about part 25 in this pic. I know the aircon one has numbers around the edge, but I need to know if the module behind it is significantly different. I'm currently using a heavily modified set of heater controls, and don't want to have to hack up my aircon set to match if it's not necessary.

Aircon only uses the same dial. The dial with numbers on it is when temperature regulation is specified as well, and the unit is different in that case as it is thermostatic, fixing to the specified temperature i.e. climate control.

Hmmm, so since my aircon dial has numbers on it, then the unit may also have temperature regulation? I'll have to examine the part numbers on the bits I have.

Yep, should have. Behind the HVAC panel where the dial is there'll be a bigger unit with a motor

If you buy a new HVAC panel from BMW today it will come with a numbered dial.

IF you have temperature control this is a very early 'climate control' system. Works brilliantly!

Easy way to tell is to see if you have a small hose connecting to a small plastic pipe coming off the main brake servo one way valve.

Also if you have climate control the temperature dial will turn with much more resistance.

Actually, mines has much less resistance on the dial compared to a cable driven temperature regulator.

True on mine too, the climate control knob has very little resistance, more like turning the volume knob on a stereo than a physical control pulling cables and flaps or valves.
cheers,

well, it seems my two dials are identical at the rear anyway, which saves me some hassle :D
