Rite im doing a bit of a rest on my touring at the same time as doing an engine swap and in striping the front end there is loads of these little clips

Image

What are they called? im sure you will be able to buy them some whee other that BMW but without knowing what they are called its kinda hard!

secondly after bit of a go over with a wire brush the front paned is a little more corroded than i first though and doesnt look to be a simple case of cut, copy and paste a new bit in, what do the think the best way to tackle this would be? it looks a bit far gone for a simple rust treatment!

Speed clips or fasteners, get em cheap on eBay in big multi size packs, and the slam panel- take it back to bare metal

Clips are for screws to go into. Lights screw into the larger ones.

Can you put a screwdriver through the rusty bits ?

The seam at the top looks well rotten from the pic, sandblasting will remove the rust, a gun is about £20 off ebay and kiln dried sand is available from your local builders merchants 8)

I hope your not talking about the rust on the speed clip, throw that in the bin and buy some shiny new one.

Like the S50. The rust doesn't look too bad, I guess grind it down and see how rusty it is, too rusty = cut and replace

problem is it looks like a bit to tricky to cut and replace in terms of just fabricating a new peice let alone welding it in!

What about grinding off the rusty section of the seam until you find solid metal, treating the rust and repainting? It's covered over once all the trim goes back on so no one sees it.
