Not a problem as such, but I found something on my recently aquired iS that I don't know what it is, and it bugs me.
Removed the fuel pump from the tank prior to taking the tank off for a paint session, and see it is different from any other E30 pump I have seen. The pump body has a loose sleeve around it, which I assume is for sound insulation, and the bit between the actual pump and the outlet pipe is different. On this pump it's a metal box with two conical raised lumps on the side.
Anyone know what this is for?
318iS fuel pump.

No idea what the extra features are for Brian, but do you think that us iS owners could replace it with the more common pumps if there was a problem? Do they look compatible?

Pumps look absolutely identical from the outside (of the tank), and will be interchangeable. All they have to do is pump fuel around in a circle at a certain minimum pressure.

There was no known fuel pump problems as far as i know of on the IS. I noticed this too when i sold my old one to tony (eko), but didnt think of it at the time.TheDutch wrote:No idea what the extra features are for Brian, but do you think that us iS owners could replace it with the more common pumps if there was a problem? ETK # for 318-is pump: 16141152266
ETK # for 325i pump: 16141179720
The part numbers are definalty different. Also, if you look on the ETK, the 318is has a completelp seperate section for the sender, whereas the 325i has just one shown
bizarre
maybe andrew can fill us in?
