There is a switch on the drivers (I think) side of the box. There should be a corresponding plug under the gearbox console.

There should be no need for "wiring" should be a plug. I think it is a blue and white wire you are looking for, with a small white plug on the end.

The existing reverse light plug connects to a very short loom to the auto gear selector.
The reverse light switch on a manual car is on the RH side of the gearbox, and connects to a loom which is clipped to the fixed member of the gear linkage, and then comes up through the same rubber grommet that the manual gear lever comes up into the cabin through.
The plug on the end of this loom then plugs into the socket that was connected to the short loom to the auto selector.
