Hi all I'm looking to put a new diff in car I'm currently running a m52b28 with the 5 speed box to match it ( both came from same e36) now I'm wondering what's the best diff to run as I'm unsure what's in mine but it's awful must be really short ratiod :/
Any help appreciated.

What car is your base car? You could have a ratio from around 3.64 to 4.45 depending on the original model of E30 (unless its an M3).
For the E36 5 speed you would ideally need a diff ratio between 2.93 and 3.25 for road use. I know of someone running a 3.46 but its mainly a track/hill climb/sprint car.

I know my diff is medium case.. I'd ideally like a diff that's lsd got a good ration and that I could bolt on without changing the prop shaft. Can you use e36 diffs?

E36 diffs won't fit without a lot of work.
As above, for road use you will want a 2.93 to 3.25 ratio diff with the E36 5spd box. Some Z3 diffs fit (using the output flanges from your existing diff IIRC), but as soon as you mention an LSD, the price will shoot up.

Okay no bother. Every diff I see for sale from a e30 is like 3.4 ish :/

The early 325i used a 3.46 diff I think, but the most common E30 ratios are probably 3.64 to 4.27.
You could use a 3.46 with the E36 box, I know people do for track based cars, but I expect it would be a bit much for a road car.

Okay so what car would I want the diff out of with a ratio of like 3.15?

I think Z3s came with a 2.93 except for 2.8 and Z3M which were 3.15. 2.8 is a Torsen diff and the Z3M is a clutch-pack LSD. These both demand a premium though.
The only other 3.15 LSD I imagine would bolt straight on is from E30 M3, but again - demands a premium.

Old 525e came with a 2.93 medium case diff. Just requires a change of backplate to fit an E30.
They're getting thin on the ground, but there's still an odd one finds its way into a scrapyard every now and again.
