The not so good bits.......

Image

Arches look worse in the pics than they are up close, i could repair them but seeing as my mate how runs a body shops owes me a favour i think i'll get some new metal put in

The BBS wheels are in really good condition as well

Image

The hood is in really good condition but the rear window needs replacing shame its not a zip in jobby

All in all a nice buy for what i paid, engine runs well, even had the full tool kit, warning triangle and a spare 15' BBS in the boot

All seems to have been kept quite original with the exception of the tech 2 fron bumper add on and the spoiler, the tech 2 add on is a BMW item not sure about the spoiler but want to loose that anyway winkeye

they still have metal behind them and feel quite solid but like you say who knows what will appear once the grinder has been taken to em, never the less new metal is going in not gonna go the filler or fibergash route.

Gonna focus on some of the other problems first smoke about in it a bit over what little of summer we have left then do the rear arches over the winter months.

I am a little tempted to flare the arches out abit more but we'll see thats bottom of my list right now.

on the subject of rust i take it cabbys dont have the scuttle rust problem like the tin tops do, and can anyone tell me what size struts a neon convertible would have?

Alas, convertibles do suffer from rusty scuttle syndrome, but like the tin tops it is pretty random and strangely later cars seem to suffer more. The rear arches on your turd are carved out of plop, the shape is all wrong , I would be VERY suprised if that is the only rust issue the car has :( Get digging before spending. Remember, we need the gory pics ! :D

i've had all the carpets up inside and in the boot all looks good, scuttle is spotless as the battery tray.

had it up on the ramp underside is also in very good condition the inner arches from what i can see/feel seem ok but wont know until a dig deeper

anyother zones i need to check that could be missed on a rag top?

Right hand side boot carpet often hides some grimness as does the glovebox assembly. It needs removing via undoing the two 10mm nuts that secure it to the bulkhead for a good look around that area and the main wiring loom grommet.

Nice looking cab, our 91 plate had bubling on the rear arches, upon inspection found the offside front wing was worse for ware too, 2x new rear quarters 1x rear panel and a new front wing was the only way get it up to scratch properly. Cost 4k but now good as new. GL with it.

I'd smoke about in that, as for the arches keep slabbing them with isopon, use and enjoy 8)

It's not a 3,500k car is it who cares if its a bit frilly :)
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Its not driving as nice a Kia just yet but it will winkeye

I'm fairly sure it wont need whole rear quarter panels, i dont wanna make it mint just tidy, in regards to whats motor sport about it, i didnt even realise myself it had the word "motor sport" in the official title, until recently i have only ever known them as Neon design convertibles.

The fact its a limited edition dont really bother me and if i have my way it will get a different engine and loose the neon edition seats in favour of some leather seats

To be fair that may be the case with my e30 at the moment but the Astra has had a full nut and bolt resto, it don't have a spot of rust on it, so should be good for at least a month or two :D

A little update for my project thread, my apologies if you have seen these updates in another threads, this ones more for my benefit but comments always welcome.....

Well finally sorted out my cars bod eyes and found a full set of headlamps with brackets for the pricey sum of £9 locally so I now have a pair of smiley's instead of a smiley and a bullseye headlight plus a few spares

Image

and while I was there I upgraded to some 4300 HID's for the simple reason I needed a new bulb which was going to be about a skin diver and the HID kit was only 16 squids, quite happy with the results......

Image

Fitting a nice bruv spec alarm over the next few days with all the bells and whistles, full closure, remote engine start, shock sensor, microwave sensor etc etc
