It's not recommended to raise the engine very far, of course because of the additional stress you'll put on components such as the propshaft couplings. But just enough to clear the subframe should be ok for a "show car". It's something I want to do with mine too.

Have to disagree with you there.Shiz wrote:hi guys, already know as do the rest of us tht the sumps in the e30 is ridicolous low
Have owned 4 e30's including a 60/40 lowered Cab and
I'm still yet to smash a sump. What am I doing wrong?

Tbf, my first 318i was ridiculously low, and the 4 pot sumps sit lower than the 6 pots, but I never had an issue either.

Out of my 4 e30's, only one has been a 6 pot.
Which incidentally was the lowered one.

Most definitely.Blitz wrote:Its not the the sumps too low its that the car is too low.
4 pots sumps are lower than the 6 pot sumps, but if the car is a sensible height it won't be an issue, bar the odd brick in the road!
My S50 conversion was low and the sumps are really vulnerable on the 24v swaps. I bought a sump guard but never fitted it, there was a couple ring clenching moments but again, never a smashed sump.

Not really. My 24v sump actually hit the road at about 50-55mph due to the natural rise and fall of the tarmac - the road looked nice, but the hump in the middle was massive.dirtee-herbert wrote:you guys must have some bloody nice roads round your aread.
I know it was definitely the sump that hit as I could see the large scratch - it happened in the first week of having the conversion on the road and the sump was brand spanking new from BMW

The highest section in the middle of the road is the worst. It get scrapes off it all the time. I have made a sump guard recently, only had it fitted a couple of days. It protects the sump but scraping is a lot worse from the guard as its even lower than the sump.
