Recently I have noticed the heater blows cold air in traffic until you rev the engine past 3k..I've had no problems with overheating but the weather has been cold and I don't often get stuck in traffic on my commute.

Is my water pump about to give up the ghost?

Which one should I use to replace? GSF, Euro car parts or (gulp) BMW?

A good friend did his M50 one and made sure it was a metal impellor, not the plastic one. Is there such a choice with the M42 engine?

Is there anything I should know before starting the job?

Many thanks in advance guys..

before you go replacing water pumps, check that the hoses to and from the heater matrix aren't blocked. if they are, clear 'em out. if they're not, then make another diagnosis.

as far as plastic and metal impellers go, i think all m42's were metal. if not, then try an m44 one???
