just a thought, but how about getting some "stock" non modified cars to get some track times for comparison.

i would suggest

325i sport (low comp/high comp)
325i sport auto
325i se (obviously much faster than a sport!!)
318is (obviously faster than an M3)
M3
C2

+ any other?

i mean no lightened flywheels, BBTB...etc and must have a spare wheel, seats etc

i guess SS exhausts would be ok as well as K&N filters

any thoughts?

perhaps we could get a list....i think it might be interesting... :D

You forgot the lardy ugly sister.....the cab. :D

Would be interesting to find out numbers but at the same time....I don't really care enough about what power it has (could have rolling roadad it recently) or times it would do at a drag strip.

indeed it will as the guy who tried to over take me on the worcester bypass found out,

presuming who ever owns the very tidy 318is (in worcester) isn't a member on here :)

318is vs 325 sport on the strip (santa pod)

its quiet evedent with little mods to the 318is which is cost effective should keep up the bottom of if not overtake the 325 sport?

what are the quater mile times for both these little gems anyway ?

Just over 17s for the 318is and just under 16s for the 325i according to a site...

the best mod would be adding to more cylinders, then yes it would keep up with a 325 :) in seriousness though surely the torque of a 325 would keep the 318is well at bay,

Torque has nothing to do with drag racing. Providing you know how to use a gearbox anyway. Power is king!

A standard 325i isn't exacty a 'torquey' motor anyway, less peak torque at only 750rpm lower than the 4pot 500cc smaller m3 engine which everyone calls gutless and weedy

Srange that how on a straight line the 325 seems the more grunty more faster out on a straight line strech however would all this extra power help when both cars are on a curcit ?

325 seems a second or so faster then a 318is which has far less powe then the 325, i was expecting it to be more then that to be honest

A second is quite a big physical gap at the 80mph or so they'll be doing at the end of a 1/4 mile.

Somebody went to a lot of effort to organise something along these lines several years ago.. The thread was full of the usual bravado /BS/hating and then the day dawned and very few turned up and even fewer done any runs. Lots of tales of "I forgot my license " " My Sparco gearknob is not run in yet" " My piles are giving me grief " etc etc :(

Surely the only real comparison would be if the same person drove all the different models. Otherwise discrepancies in driving experience / aggression would come into play. Totally impractical, I realise :)

Spot the iS owner in denial :D

On a circuit of course the 325i would still slaughter an iS. All that extra torque helps launch out of corners, not just in a straight line.

Queue all the iS owners saying the handling is so much better (it being a baby m3 and all) that the 325i wouldn't stand a chance.

Not in no denial at all bud i drive 2 cas one which is my lil 4 pot m42 and the other being a e92 335i.

Both cars a fun cars however i had much faith in the 325 sport to be much more powerful and faster, the fact that it beats it only by a second or so was rather shocking to read. I for one enjoy the IS but not at all do i love it, the real love is with the 335i e92.

But as for the e30 m42 i would have thought after much reading stating its lighter more and revs quicker however understanding after 3rd gear it gets powerless and boring i admit it but then again i cant expect much more from an 20 ear old 4 pot. the 325 e30 i would have thought would have been far superior but it is not :(

its eveident a few minor modifications to the m42 it beat the 325 on track and online weird that ???

Sorry, one second is an eternity over a 1/4 mile. The 325 is a faster car everywhere than an IS . Obviously a modified IS will go faster, as will a modified 325 . On a positive note, the M42 is economical ! :)

A second is a fair amount of time down a dragstrip.

Modifying it to be quicker is a moot point (and I somehow doubt cheap modifications will allow it to beat a 325i) and in the same breath apply those same modifications to an m20 and once again the iS left behind.

i can tell you 100% that a C2 2.7 manual touring will pull a 14.9 quarter.

Stock car, log manifold.

No one else will be running one up the strip as I've never seen another C2 run up there
