What Tyres do people recommend? I've got to replace my 2 fronts, (205/55 VR15), the rears are Kumhos, & seems to have lasted ok, MOT time is coming up, I drive about 200 miles a week. So looking for something which'll last.

I'd avoid dunlop/toyo as I've found they are quite soft so probably wouldn't last all that long. What about Kumho's to match the other axle?

I can get a pair of Kumhos for £124, don't know if thats good or not, just seeing what options people suggest. The tracking is all over the place as well.

If you want good budget tyres go for Falkens or a little bit more expensive and get Vredesteins

Should be around the £120 mark for a pair of Kumhos in 205/55/15s fitted. My last set was £200 for all four, the rears wore due to me having fun, but the fronts have lasted well.

Phil if you want lasting and not "sport" sort if use, Pirelli p6000 are hard wearing lasting tyres they say, but not the best for hard driving
I might be able to help you with a couple if you'd like some ?
How did you find the kumho ? Ecsta ?
I've got 2 here, never used them and thinking if buying 2 more to make a set , also got a set of the Pirelli but not sure u want to use them on the tech 1

I don't like the Pirellis in the wet
I have Kumho Ecsta on an E30 and E46 - they are good tyres all round.

I've had Pirellis on a car before never had probs in the wet but wasn't rwd, but they are a tyre that lasts very well and ok on an average normal use car, then again on an e30 you should always take it easy in the wet whatever the tyre, and a Pirelli will still be better than a random cheap budget tyre of a deal brand I should imagine ?

don't put p6000's on any e30 they don't grip well and are a really hard compound tyre not suited to the car. leave them for the 5 series mob.

Phil, I have just put 4 Kumhos on my 530i sport and I'd recommend them. I also had them on a 1.8t GTI and again, they suited that. They are the best all round, reasonably priced tyre AFAIC.
And our resident BMW dealer tech tells me that BMW are fitting them as standard on some models?
I would NEVER buy Pirelli. Yes they are hard wearing but every set I've had has cracked up before they've waorn out. Kinda defeats the object in my book and if you think about it, How many brand new cars now wear Pirelli from the factory? Every Audi I see is wearing Contis, BMW's used Conti for years and now see above. I have not seen a Pirelli on a new car for years.

Thanks Trevor, As I drive the E30 on a daily basis, I don't want to be buying tyres every 6 months !
I'll probably order a pair of Kumho's today. I'll have get to know your BMW Techy, sounds like he knows what hes on about

Falkens are pretty good Phil and reasonably priced
Also oldskool as it may sound Firestones are pretty hardwearing and not expensive

Falkens I can agree with. I have z91somethings on the front of mine and they're fine.Rickz wrote:If you want good budget tyres go for Falkens or a little bit more expensive and get Vredesteins
Vredsteins however, are shit. All they ever do is go out of shape and turn the ride into that of something on heptagons instead of wheels

Phil I've got wanli on mine. Its what a lot of the taxi drivers use . They are not too hard or soft and not too noisy either. Mine are 215/40/17 and were £115 for 2
if there wern't people like me,
with cars like mine,
who would you put down to make yourself feel better?

Vredstiens are doing huge business on m3 cutters. They really rate them.
Firestones however? I have only ever found as ditch finders. I've bought a few cars with them on. Rwds have had zero grip and fwds just push straight on at the next roundabout. I could never write a cheque out for them no matter how cheap.

Put a pair on the Mrs Astra a few months ago as she was sick of the fronts wearing out in less than 12000 miles - 2 different tyre dealers recommended them as being a slightly harder compound than other budget stuff and so far they seem ok - its only a 1.7DTi though - hardly a ball of fireB7 wrote:

I think they are a better choice than Pirelli if I'm honest.

I've found that Hankook tyres are pretty good value for the money, got them on my E30 and my E39.

P6000 are crap ! My 316i would break traction with them on
Phil, the kumhos will be spot on.
I recently got 4 tyres for the e46, I was going to go for falkens again but I went with eagle F1's. they were only £100 more for a set of 4 over the falkens and the put perform them in every aspect so are worth the extra outlay

Worst tyres i've ever used on my e30.polsta wrote: Fallen ze912 are great I found, I bought 2 brand new ones and no issues at all and a yea later were still like new, can't fault them
was glad when i finally killed them off on a trackday, although slightly worrying that the tread started falling off in chunks.
shame really because the 452 was pretty good.
cheers,

The maxxis maz4 work pretty well on an e30, haven't tried the maz1 yet. Both work out around £220 for 4.
