Hi all,
So I've searched and found a lot of threads on how to actually adjust the valve clearances but I've been having problems getting something onto the crankshaft bolt to turn the engine. I just find whatever angle I try, I can't get my socket+ratchet on to turn it! I've tried with my adjustable wrench but that was too bulky.
I could go and buy a 22mm spanner from Halfords on trade and that might work.. But if anyone else has suggestions it'd be appreciated!
I've read that you can jump the starter to spin it, but it's meant to be very tricky to get it into the right position and I've heard of jacking a rear wheel off the ground, putting it in 5th and turning the wheel? That may be the easiest way, but it means trial and error unless you have a friend to turn while you watch.
Thanks

Bridging pins 11 and 14 in the diagnostic socket, engages the starter turning the engine over.

To do a job, you need the tools! 22mm open ended spanner is what you want - there's no chance of leaving it on after you've finished and starting the engine with it in place.

The older I become, the more excited I get at the prospect of buying new tools..

You can put the car in gear on a flat surface and gently rock it forward or backward to get the cam to the position you want - you're using the wheels to turn the engine.
