I've been looking at renewing my engine mounts for my 325, and wondered why poly engine mounts are so rare for the e30?

They seem to be a very simple design, and I wondered whether it would be possible to just simply get a tube of polyurethane, get a hole machined into it, and a high tensile bolt through it?

Has anyone tried anything similar before?

Poly engine mounts will transmit far too much vibration.

These are a direct fit :

I've used them as have a few other zoners - not expensive and they do the job.

What's the advantage of those ones over OEM/pattern ones?
Also surely the harshness of the vibrations would depend on the grade of polyurethane used?

No point putting a bolt THROUGH it, as all the vibrations will just be transmitted through the bolt. The threaded rods on proper engine mounts should not be connected within the mount.

If you want to stiffen up M20 engine mounts, then add a couple of #12 on here: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E30/2 ... on_damper/
