i bought a brand new sachs clutch to use on my m52 conversion and when i started it up first start with just the manifolds on i could here a noise coming from the gearbox/fly wheel area by the starter motor but the engine noise was loud with no zaust fitted so gave it a rev and it seemed to go away slightly .sat running on the drive for about 7 mins - 10 mins not sounding too good then i switched it off to get the zaust fitted and locate this noise and bleed the system up etc. anyhoo i've taken the donk back out and my new clutch has eaten the g/box housing 8O .

325i clutch m42 box should be a perfect match right,I got the clutch from ecp and the clutch box which i've just pulled out of the recycling bin has part no 641 11 0100 m20 e28 525e on it ? Craigeeb ordered the clutch and used his 325i e30 touring reg plate to confirm correct part .

here's the damage

Mick, not sure whats caused the damage here, but the part number is spot on if you were after an M20 clutch kit. Its the only clutch I've ever sold to any zoners, and also had one fitted to my sport a month ago. the Sachs part number on the box should be 3000950058

525e is a distinctly different clutch to 525i/325i. I've seen a few threads in Tech Help recently where people said exactly this; they wanted a 325i clutch but were only offered an 325e one.

They've definitely sent you the wrong part, but it seems ECP must have the wrong numbers in their database. The Sachs kit you needed was 3000 132 002, not

I disagree, as stated above, when asked for M20 clutch kits by zoners, I have only ever supplied the kit Mick has bought.

No-one has ever come back with any issues, I must have sold at least 20 in the last 2 years.

Hopefully some of my customers will be along shortly to back this up!

Edit: Just to add, 3000 132 002 crosses over to the clutch Mick has bought also

the pressure plate is clearly too big so it's the wrong part .

ironically i had a brand new luk clutch ready for the m52 swap but i let scaremonger stories on my build thread get the better of me and bought the sachs one and sold the luk one on ebay but to top it off i had x3 318is gearboxes but sold two of them recently and now I need another one

Can't work out what the problem is, numbers all match up at my end. the only thing I can think is its possibly boxed wrong from Sachs end then, if you're saying the parts are visually different to what you expected.

Speak to Scott180gtb - he had one off me for his sport a while back, just pinched a pic off his thread, you can just make out the part number

Not sure about Scotts, but I've done over 500 miles on my new clutch and fly so far and all is well. I bought brand new clutch and flywheel bolts from the dealer too.

Can you get numbers off the actual clutch and pressure plates for me? I can cross ref with what should be in the box

The part number 641110100 is correct for a 325 M20, my car is proof of that.

Its a bit of a grey area asking for compo on this one - You've asked for an E30 M20 325 clutch, fitted it to an M42 box mated to an M52 engine, we all know they are compatible but Sachs will still wriggle out of this straight away, the part has not been fitted to its intended application.

Call me if you still have my number - I will do my best to help sort something out

Definitely wrong if thats the P/N on the clutch, bugger all showing up with a google search too so it must be a clutch for one particular model or something of low numbers, but either way it sounds like you've been cursed Mick

To be fair, the clutch that was ordered should be the right part in the box, it's down to the company that supplies that part, to ensure it's the correct item before passing it on to their customers, and if any subsequent failing of said item causing damage due to it not being the correct part ordered,
the cost of replacing the original item and any damaged item caused by the wrong part,
should be reimbursed by the company that failed to supply the correct item.

Had trouble myself getting the right clutch kit from ECP, as I wanted the Sachs one, but the CORRECT kit for a 325i made by Sachs is no longer in production...

The part number for the kit, which is out of production is: 3000 132 002

Check page 62 here > http://pdf.directindustry.com/pdf/zf-ma ... 68259.html

As OP explained, when you order one from ECP, giving them your 325i reg, they send you the one for 525e, so since I checked the part numbers and they didn't match, I returned it.

My advice, get the LUK kit from GSF, as that's what I got and it's a perfect fit.

The part number for LUK is: 62 303 2700

You can also double-check the individual parts included in the box on LUK's website here > http://toc.luk-as.de/

P.S. I've got a stock 325i box (Getrag 260), so not sure what's the right kit for a M42 box.

I agree, that quote was before I was more sure the clutch could be boxed wrong. I'll know for sure in the morning.
Unfortunately I deal with these situations often, been selling parts since I was 18 but have prob only ever seen a manufacturer admit fault on a warranty claim 3 or 4 times.

Once we can prove the part is wrong I will contact the branch that supplied Mick the clutch and help to get the ball rolling. As stated the p/n 641110100 IS the correct clutch for an M20 325, which is why my car, Scotts and many others on here have this clutch fitted without any issue.
