Does the original gear lever have the bend so that the top section leans forwards, or backwards...?
I only ask as the Z3 2.8 lever that I'm going to experiment with is straight.
I wonder whether I need to bend it, or if it would work as it is...
Giles.

You'll definately need to bend it otherwise it will hit the centre console, bend it 90 degrees from the horizontal axis going through the bottom of the rod, you can always turn it round 180 degrees if you install it wrong.
I'd say just put it in first to see how much it needs bending by, then remove it and do it gradually.
Have a look at this site for a good method of bending things, it can be applied to your shifter.

He he he!
You seen where the gear lever bends from...? It's just under where the upper outer section is... difficult to get a hold on it to bend it. Might have to fathom out some ingenious way of doing it.
90 degrees though, that's a bit much!

No no no, what I meant was, imagine you're looking at the gearstick from teh top down, also imagine the hole through the bottom is horizontal. I meant, bend it at a 90 degree angle forwards... damn this is hard to explain. What I mean is... oh never mindGeeman wrote:He he he!

told you that you will need to bend it.
I dont think you will be able to tho, as the outer section will bend before the rod does as the centre is made of rubber.

It'll be difficult, but I'll have a go...
