Hi,

I ve been having some problems with my oil pressure switch

I have tried 3 switches now and when fitted With the engine off, I test for continuity between the switch pin and ground and get open circuit

Same for all 3 switches

I've checked the diagramms and it would appear that when the engine is off and there is no oil pressure the switch wire (energised when the key is turned) goes to ground to complete the circuit and illuminate the bulb on the dash.

I tested for continuity from the switch terminal and ground and I get open circuit.

I tried 3 pressure switches, all the same

So I thought I would test for 12v at the wire connection when the engine is running, yes, it has 12v and with the wire disconnected from the sensor the low oil pressure light is still on

So I then I earthed the wire, light on, disconnected the wire, light still on

The only way I can get the low oil light off is to pull fuse 10.

There is definitely loads of oil pressure.

The very odd thing is this

When I crank the engine in the start position, the light goes out

When the engine fires the light slowly comes on, over a couple of seconds

This is exactly the opposite of what should happen.

I did have a look at the instrument cluster and it is getting 12v in

Any ideas?

Thanks
:D

Sorry forgot to mention, I don't have any reversing lights and I think the temperature gauge is not working also

The car is a 318 1992 cab with a e34 m30b35 freshly installed.

Everything else is fine
