If you tell us which light it is, then we'll tell you how to fix it.
Abs light is a circle in brackets with ABS written in it.
The same with an exclamation mark in place of ABS is the brake hydraulics.
The same with a P in place of ABS is the handbrake warning light.
A circle with dotted brackets around it is the brake wear warning light.
The check panel brake indicator is to warn of a blown brake lamp bulb.

I know that I've read an article somewhere that says that the ABS trigger ring can become clogged with roaddirt, causing the light to stay on.
Presumably this can be cleaned, but I don't know how to do this
Anyone else?

yea, its happen on mine, i havnt cleaned it yet because i dont know exactly what to do
i think its a cable that conects to the brake caliper on the front and rear left
the cable unplugs and blast with comp. air or a paint brush to clean out the salt or grit
i heard there is a wire involved in the assm. somewhere but as said, i dont know siht

If the light comes on with ignition, and stays on after the engine starts, it is not clogged rotor rings. The symptoms for this are that the light goes out after the engine starts, but comes back on again when the car moves faster than about five MPH.
Try replacing the ABS relay.

Well i'm having a similar problem, abs light on when car moves over 5mph, so i cleaned one side of the abs ring(being lazy+it being stupidly cold) and it didn't help.
My old man being a bit of an anorak suggested trying the resistance of the abs sensors, they should both be the same. I tried the sensors and they were vastly different, so i am in the process of getting one off "nelly."
I can't remember what the old man said, whether high or low resitance meant a good or bad sensor, maybe someone else knows??
This may or may not cure the problem, just my 2 pence worth, i'll keep you posted.

guys, have you done the obvious.
Find an empty road and drive at 20mph and slam on the anchors a safe distance away from any junction or innanemate objects....if the wheels lock up then the abs definitely isnt working as there have been instances of a false alarm.
The abs brain itself may be at fault.
