Hi guys. I'm having trouble finding the engine number. Haynes says "The engine number is stamped on a machined face on the left-hand side of the cylinder block, near the base of the oil level dipstick tube.". Either I'm looking in the wrong place or it isn't there. Does anyone have a photo of where I can find it?
It's a 316. There's no info in the wiki and the forum search isn't working :(
Thanks

If you have your v5 (logbook) to hand it should be on there.

Thanks, indeed it does. I'm trying to find out if the engine was replaced at any point which might not necessarily show in the V5.

It's on a machined surface right at the base of the block, where it joins the sump, just behind the LH engine mount arm, and the 'forum search' is working, has always worked, and returns whatever information you are looking for IF people would take the trouble to learn how the filters work!

I checked the Search function just after the OP posted. It wasn't working AT ALL then.

And still isn't, and I can filter with the best

Sorry Brian.

Have to agree with both of the above. Its not working for me either. I think it has something to do with the new IE9 as it works perfectly for me at home.

I've just tested it in IE9, IE10 and Firefox with no issues.

What was you searching for?
